Quick answer

  • Writes: monster romance, alien and science fiction romance, romantasy and paranormal romance. Her store bio talks about monster heroes, after earlier biker, bear and alien series.
  • The big one: Ice Planet Barbarians, self-published from April 2015, with around 29 titles in the series on her own site plus companion series Icehome and Ice Planet Clones.
  • Where to read: Amazon for the ebooks, with newer self-published titles in Kindle Unlimited; Apple Books; Audible for audio; and special print editions sold through her site.
  • Publisher-backed too: her Royal Artifactual Guild romantasy series comes from Ace Books, which is why its pages list a wider set of retailers.
  • Free: nothing. No free serial, no subscription and no free-story page appears on her site. The reading orders and checklists are free to download.

What Ruby Dixon writes

Romance with non-human heroes, which splits into two halves on her shelf. The self-published half is science fiction romance: Ice Planet Barbarians and its companion series, set on a frozen world, running to dozens of titles. The publisher-backed half is fantasy romance, or romantasy, under the Royal Artifactual Guild name. Apple Books files her under Paranormal Romance, and Amazon's own tag on Ice Planet Barbarians on her author page is Humorous Erotica, which tells you something about the register.

Her Amazon bio calls Ice Planet Barbarians a TikTok sensation. That is the series' second life: it began in 2015 and found a much larger audience years later, which is also why so many of the special print editions exist.

The books, and the order to read them in

Ice Planet Barbarians is dated 3 April 2015 on Amazon, with her own name printed as publisher, and her series page is the list to work from: around 29 titles, plus the Icehome and Ice Planet Clones companion series. The most recent of those we confirmed is Vexing Valmir (31 July 2026), the fifth Ice Planet Clones book, which showed "Read for Free" in Kindle Unlimited when we looked.

The Ace Books series begins with Bull Moon Rising, dated 15 October 2024 on Apple, and continues in By the Horns, dated 2 September 2025. Those are the titles sold most widely, including in print through ordinary bookshops.

With a series this long the reading order is the real question, and she has answered it herself: her For Readers page carries printable reading orders, checklists and a publishing-order list, and links a reader-run wiki and a reader-run Facebook group. Those are free, and they are more reliable than any list we could assemble.

What it costs to read her

Everything is paid, but the mix matters. Newer self-published titles sit in Kindle Unlimited, so a subscription covers them; we confirmed that badge on Vexing Valmir only, read from a store with a Netherlands delivery location, and older titles may differ. Our breakdown of what Kindle+ costs covers the subscription price and how borrowing works.

The Ace Books titles are bought individually, at whatever the retailers charge. Audiobooks are listed on her own audiobooks page, and she also sells special print editions of the self-published books, which is where the collector money goes. Her newsletter is the only direct channel: there is no Patreon, Ream or Substack on any page we read, and the Serial category page on her own site was empty when we fetched it, so we do not claim she publishes serially.

What her own pages claim

Her By the Horns page calls Bull Moon Rising a New York Times bestseller, and the blurb on her Bull Moon Rising page says USA Today bestselling Ruby Dixon. Amazon's own tag on Ice Planet Barbarians on her author page reads Best Seller. The first two are blurb text on her own site and the third is the store's label; all three are quoted rather than repeated as our own finding, because no list of this kind is open for us to check.

What is not confirmed

No start year is stated, and the 2015 date above is a release date rather than the beginning of her career. Kindle Unlimited status is confirmed for one title. Her home page lists two forthcoming items, a special edition dated 1 December 2026 and a release dated 19 January 2027, which we have not seen on sale. Her home page carries no biography paragraph at all, which is why this page leans on her store bio and her own book pages. Her contact details, and the lines about cats and coffee in her store bio, are left out on purpose.

Every writer we cover is listed on the authors hub.
