Erotica App Pricing

What an erotica app costs is almost never the number on its store listing. Free to download usually means free to start, subscriptions come weekly, monthly or yearly, and coin packs hide the real price behind a chapter cost that only the app shows. This guide explains the three pricing models, does the arithmetic and points to eighteen pages that price one service each.

Updated

Quick answer

  • Three models: a subscription (a flat fee for a library), coins (an in-app currency that pays for chapters or choices) and a price per title. Many services mix two.
  • A coin is not a unit of money. By our arithmetic one coin costs about 1 cent at Dreame and GoodNovel, about 2 at Webnovel, while a Chapters diamond is 7.3 to 9.95 cents and a Dorian heart 11.6 to 14.2.
  • The missing number: what a chapter or premium choice costs in those units appears only inside the apps. We do not install apps, so it is marked unpublished and never estimated.
  • Weekly plans compound: four weekly payments cost about 1.5 times (Tabou Stories) to 2 times (MeChat) the monthly plan.
  • Two rules worth money: Apple says credits bought in-app may not expire, and a subscription usually beats coins for anyone reading daily.

Why the listing price is not the price

Every coin and choice app in this section is free to download, from Chapters to Dreame, and it tells you nothing, because the store label describes the install, not the reading. What you pay is set by a currency you buy inside the app, a plan you start inside it, or a title you buy on a shop page. This section exists to turn those into dollars.

Eighteen services have a page of their own here. We chose them because each one has a price that is not the number on its store listing: it depends on coins, on chapter unlocks or on several tiers. A service with one flat price is left to its review. The method is the same on each page. We lead with what a reader actually pays, do the arithmetic wherever the data allows it and label it as ours, and say where a figure exists only inside an app. We did not subscribe, install or pay for anything. Prices were read from official pricing pages, help centres and store listings on October 27, 2026, and they change with region, promotion and store.

The three ways these services charge

A subscription: pay for time, read what is in the library

A subscription is a fee for a period, and the period is the first thing to read. Dipsea is $12.99 a month or $69.99 a year (what Dipsea costs). Kindle+ is $11.99 a month plus taxes. NovelAI renews every 30 days, not every month. Tabou Stories prices a week and a month. What it includes is the second thing: Dipsea's covers the whole library, Tabou Stories' lets you play as many chapters as you like, and a number of store listings name a plan without saying what it unlocks. A subscription is easy to price and easy to forget to cancel.

Coins: pay per chapter or per choice, in a currency

A coin economy has two prices, and only one is public. The pack price and the number of units in it are on the store list, so the price of a unit can be worked out. The number of units a chapter or choice costs is shown inside the app. Services call the unit coins, diamonds, gems, keys, tickets, hearts, Anlas or credits. The glossary entry on credit-based reading covers why the format exists, and how story app credits work covers the mechanics.

Per title: pay once for a book

Apple Books says its app is free, there is no subscription and audiobooks and ebooks are priced individually, with thousands of free titles and free samples. Google Play Books is a per-title store too. Smashwords is an ebook store only, with nearly 100,000 books priced at free and the rest paid per title, and it keeps erotica hidden until a registered user switches it on. Audible sits between the models: its Standard plan is $8.99 a month and selects one audiobook a month, its Premium Plus plan is $14.95 a month and gives one credit a month that rolls over, and extra titles are sold at full price. A per-title price is the easiest to read and the one the book's own page shows.

Mixed models are the norm

Few services use only one. Choices has keys, diamonds and a VIP plan, set out in how much Choices costs. Quinn has a subscription and optional tips called Roses. GoodNovel and Webnovel sell coins and weekly memberships. AI Dungeon and Sudowrite sell tiers that include credits and, on Sudowrite, credit packs on top. Read all the lines of a store list, not the first.

Every app at a glance

The table lists every app in our records with its free-tier status, its cheapest published price, how it bills and how to cancel. Read the price column with care: the cheapest published price can be a $0.99 coin pack, which says what it costs to start, or the lowest monthly plan, which says nothing about the free allowance beside it. A line saying "Not confirmed" means the pages we read are silent, not that the answer is no.

Do the arithmetic yourself

Pricing a coin economy takes five steps, and the fourth is the one nobody publishes.

  1. Find the pack price and the number of units in it. If the pack has no count, stop: it cannot be priced.
  2. Divide the price by the count. That is the price of one unit.
  3. Find how many units a chapter or choice costs, inside the app. This is the number services do not publish.
  4. Multiply that by the chapters you expect to read, and by the price of one unit.
  5. Compare with the subscription, if there is one: the break-even is the subscription price divided by the price of a chapter.

The table gives step two for every pack list in our records that prints counts. All figures are our arithmetic from US App Store prices read on October 27, 2026.

UnitSmallest counted packLargest counted packPrice of one unit
Dreame coin300 for $2.992,500 for $24.99About 1.0 cent in every pack
GoodNovel coin200 for $1.995,000 for $49.99About 1.0 cent in every pack
Webnovel coin50 for $0.995,000 for $99.99About 2.0 cents in every pack
Chapters diamond20 for $1.99550 for $39.999.95 cents down to 7.27
Whispers gem20 for $1.99250 for $19.999.95 cents down to 8.0
Dorian heart14 for $1.99860 for $99.9914.2 cents down to 11.6 (one 100-heart pack at $6.99 is 7.0)
Choices diamond60 for $1.99 (a "sale" item)No other count3.3 cents, normal rate unknown
Chapters ticket5 for $1.99No other count39.8 cents
Romance Club spin10 for $3.99No other count39.9 cents
Quinn Rose (a tip)1 for $2.9925 for $69.99$2.99 down to $2.80

Romance Club's diamonds, MeChat's gems, Winked's diamonds, Tabou Stories' keys and packages and most of Choices' packs print no count at all, so a unit price cannot be worked out for them.

The lesson in the column on the right is that a number on a button means nothing without the service. Take any button that says 30. At Dreame or GoodNovel it is about 30 cents. At Webnovel it is about 60 cents. A Chapters diamond makes it $2.18 to $2.99, a Whispers gem $2.40 to $2.99, and a Dorian heart $3.49 to $4.27. That is a conversion, not a claim that any chapter costs 30 of anything. It is also why coin counts do not compare between apps, and why Webnovel's coin rate, double that of Dreame and GoodNovel, matters before you compare chapters.

Buying the larger pack is worth considering only where the discount is real: 27 percent between the smallest and largest Chapters packs, 20 percent at Whispers and 18 percent at Dorian. At the three web novel platforms there is none. And a big pack is only a bargain if you will spend it, since a currency whose chapter price you cannot see is a risk at any size.

Weekly plans: the number that compounds

Weekly pricing is cheap on the day you see it and costly over a month. Apple's rules set the floor: a subscription must last at least seven days, so a week is the shortest plan the store allows. Our arithmetic from the published prices:

ServiceWeeklyMonthly on the same listFour weeks52 weeks12 months
MeChat$4.99$9.99$19.96$259.48$119.88
Tabou Stories$2.99$7.99$11.96$155.48$95.88
GoodNovel$9.99 and $19.99None listed$39.96 and $79.96$519.48 and $1,039.48Not applicable
Webnovel$19.99$9.99 (a different item)$79.96$1,039.48$119.88 for the monthly item

At MeChat and Tabou Stories the weekly plan wins only for a reader who stays about two weeks: two weekly payments are $9.98 and $5.98, under the month. A third makes it dearer at both. At GoodNovel and Webnovel the weekly items are not matched by a published monthly equivalent, and the listings do not say what they unlock, so we cannot say whether they pay for themselves. Our pages on MeChat's weekly plan and GoodNovel's weekly memberships do the full sums.

Web price against store price

When a service sells the same plan on its website and in an app, the prices can differ. Stores take a cut of in-app sales, which is the usual explanation. No service in our records says that is why its own prices differ, so treat it as the likely reason, not a published one.

  • Sudowrite: $19, $29 and $59 a month on the web, $24.99, $39.99 and $84.99 on the App Store. That is 32, 38 and 44 percent more. See Sudowrite's web, store and annual prices.
  • Quinn: $7.99 a month in both places, but the annual plan is $59.99 on the App Store against "$4.99 a month billed annually" on the web, which is $59.88 if multiplied out, an 11-cent gap.
  • Dipsea: the store descriptions quote the same $12.99 and $69.99 as the web, but the App Store in-app list also carries older price points.
  • AI Dungeon: one pair lines up, Journey and its old name Champion at $14.99. The other App Store items cannot be matched to tiers.
  • Dreame, GoodNovel, Webnovel and Dorian: the first three have reading websites and Dorian a web Heart Store, but no web coin or heart prices were recorded, so no comparison is possible.
  • NovelAI, Bloom Stories and Kindle+: sold on their own sites, with no store-billed version in our records, so there is one price to read.

The rule that follows is general advice: if a service has a website, read its price there before you buy in the app. Our guide to why erotica apps behave oddly in the App Store explains the rules that push so many of them to the web.

A free trial is not a free tier

These two get confused, and the difference is money. A trial is time-limited access to paid content that converts into a charge unless you cancel. Dipsea's 7-day trial is on the annual plan only, so the bill on day eight is $69.99. A free tier is a standing allowance with no end date: a key timer, a daily reward, a rotating selection. A sample is a free first stretch of a book, after which you pay. "Free to download" is none of the three.

Two rules that are worth money

Credits bought in-app on iPhone may not expire

Tip

Apple's guideline 3.1.1 says Any credits or in-game currencies purchased via in-app purchase may not expire, and that developers should provide a restore mechanism for restorable purchases. If an app says your coins will lapse, check which store you bought them in.

The limits matter as much as the rule. It covers purchases made through Apple's in-app system, not coins bought on a website, which follow the service's own terms. It says nothing about free coins earned by tasks or rewards. We have not tested whether any app complies, and most of the services here publish no expiry rule at all. The few that do differ: AI Dungeon says its credits do not expire and accumulate, NovelAI says purchased Anlas do not expire but subscription Anlas reset to zero when the subscription ends, and Sudowrite rolls unused credits over for 12 months on its Max plan only. The Apple text is in the App Store Review Guidelines.

A subscription usually beats coins for anyone reading daily

This is general advice, and it comes from structure, not from a measured result. A subscription caps your bill. Coins do not: the more you read, the more you spend. The break-even is the subscription price divided by the price of one chapter. If you unlock more chapters a month than that number, coins cost more. A casual reader who unlocks a handful of chapters will do better on coins or on a free tier.

The rule only works when the subscription covers what you want to read, and the listings are uneven about that. Tabou Stories says its plan gives unlimited tickets so you can play as many chapters as you like. Choices lists unlimited keys in its VIP help article, which is old. Chapters VIP, Whispers VIP, Romance Club's Gold pass and the Webnovel and GoodNovel memberships have no published contents, so the comparison cannot be made for them. Our page on subscription against credit-based story apps covers the trade-off in more detail.

Cancelling and refunds: what is published

A store subscription is cancelled in the store's subscription settings, not inside the app, and the apps rarely say so. Where a service publishes a cancel route or a refund rule, this is what it says:

ServiceHow to cancelRefunds
DreameApple ID subscription settings or the Google Play subscriptions pagePayments final and non-refundable except where specified; report a charge made in error within 30 days
GoodNovelApple ID subscription settings, choose "GoodNovel Bundle"All fees non-refundable
WebnovelApple ID subscription settings or Google PlayNon-refundable unless required by law
Kindle+Manage your membership, then cancel; active until the next billing dateNo refund of fees already paid
AI DungeonWeb: profile picture, Settings, MembershipDiscretionary; none for partly used periods; Apple refunds via Apple only
NovelAIThrough the payment processor or the payment centerNone unless explicitly granted
SudowriteAccount membership page or emailThe Terms say none; the docs promise a refund in the first 7 days
DorianNot publishedHearts or sapphires spent on a choice cannot be refunded
Quinn"Cancel anytime", no stepsNot published

For Chapters, Choices, Romance Club, Whispers, Winked, MeChat, Tabou Stories, Dipsea and Bloom Stories we recorded neither a cancellation route nor a refund rule. Our guide to cancelling a story app subscription has the store steps, and what erotica apps look like on a bank statement covers the line on the statement.

What nobody publishes

Three kinds of number are missing across the section, and we say so on each page.

  • The price of a chapter or choice in the app's own units. Dreame, GoodNovel and Webnovel do not publish coins per chapter. Chapters, Choices, Romance Club, Whispers, Winked, MeChat and Tabou Stories do not publish diamonds, gems or tickets per choice. Dorian cannot, because each creator sets the price.
  • What a pass contains. Chapters VIP, DayPass, Whispers VIP, whispers club, Romance Club's Gold pass and Tea for a day, and the Webnovel and GoodNovel memberships are named on store lists with no contents and, in several cases, no billing period.
  • How many units a pack holds. Romance Club, MeChat, Winked and Tabou Stories print most or all of their pack prices without counts.

These figures exist only inside the apps, and we do not install apps. We will not estimate them from the pack names or from a neighbouring service. If you want the real price of a book, open it, read the number against the unit price in the table above and decide before you buy.

The eighteen pricing pages

Each page below leads with what a reader pays, then the arithmetic, the web and store prices side by side where our records have both, the free tier, the trial, how to cancel and what it says about refunds. They are grouped here by the kind of service. The cards run from the choice and chat apps to the web novel platforms, the audio and library services, and the AI and writing tools.

FAQ

How much do erotica apps cost?

It depends on the model. Monthly subscriptions in our records start at $7.99 (Quinn, Tabou Stories) and reach $11.99 (Kindle+), $12.99 (Dipsea) and about $30 at Bloom Stories, with weekly plans from $2.99. The AI tools run from $10 to $99.99 a month, plus web-only Shadow Tiers at AI Dungeon from $246.66. Coin apps cost whatever a chapter takes in units, and a unit ranges from about a cent to about 14 cents.

Are erotica apps free?

The coin and choice apps here are all free to download. Only some have a standing free tier (Choices, Winked, Dorian, Bloom Stories and AI Dungeon), and a few give a free first stretch of each book. A trial is a different thing, because it ends in a charge.

Is a subscription cheaper than coins?

For someone reading daily, usually. A subscription caps the bill and coins do not. The break-even is the subscription price divided by the price of a chapter, and that chapter price is often published only inside the app.

Do story app coins expire?

Apple's rules say credits bought through an in-app purchase may not expire. Coins bought on a website follow the service's own terms. Most services here publish no expiry rule.

How do I work out the price per chapter?

Divide the pack price by the coins in it, then multiply by the coins a chapter costs, which you read inside the app. Where a pack prints no count, it cannot be done.

Why is the website price different from the App Store price?

Stores take a cut of in-app sales, which is the usual explanation. Sudowrite is 32 to 44 percent dearer in the App Store. No service in our records states that is the reason.

What is the difference between a free trial and a free tier?

A trial is time-limited access that bills you at the end unless you cancel. A free tier is a standing allowance with no end date.
