Erotica Apps

Erotica Apps Without a Subscription

Three kinds of erotica service avoid a monthly charge: free archives, per-title stores and apps that sell coins or credits. Only the archives cost nothing further. Literotica, Archive of Our Own and Chyoa are free to read, Apple Books, Google Play Books and Smashwords charge per title, and the coin apps charge per chapter at a price none of them publishes. This page is about how you pay, not what you read.

Updated

Quick answer

  • Free archives: Literotica, Archive of Our Own and Chyoa cost nothing to read, and Outfox Stories moves most stories to its free tier a few months after publication. Their cost is that they are websites.
  • Per title: Apple Books says there is no subscription and prices titles individually. Google Play Books and Smashwords also sell per title, and Smashwords says nearly 100,000 of its titles are free, with erotica hidden until you switch it on.
  • Coins: Dreame and GoodNovel price a coin at about 1 cent at every pack size, Webnovel at about 2 cents, Roma from 1.0 down to 0.67 cents and Wattpad from 11 down to 3.7. No coin app we cover publishes what a chapter costs in coins.
  • Watch for: weekly passes beside the coins, which cost more over a year than the monthly price, and trials that renew.
  • One-off payments: DreamGen credit packs, DreamPress AI top-ups and StoryLoom's $5.99 spool, which is usable with or without a subscription.

Free archives: no payment of any kind

A free library is the one arrangement with no further charge, and it is defined, with the other four kinds of free, on the free erotica hub. Literotica says reading, audio and story games are free and membership is optional and free. Archive of Our Own says Users don't have to pay to use the site, and we don't host ads, and is funded entirely by donations. Chyoa is free to read, runs advertising and thanks voluntary backers. FanFiction.Net is free to read as well, but it does not accept explicit content.

Their sizes are claims or counters, not audits. Literotica's About page claims more than 500,000 stories. Archive of Our Own's home page counter read 18,800,000 works on October 27, 2026. FanFiction.Net's store text says millions of stories. Outfox Stories sits between the archives and a paid service: its Content Guidelines say most stories move to the free tier a few months after publication, and its optional Premium plans run at $8, $20 and $100 a month, or $6 and $15 a month on annual billing for the first two. The price of all of this is convenience: Literotica and Archive of Our Own have no official store app.

Per-title stores: you pay for each book

Apple Books says The Apple Books app is free and there is no subscription, that audiobooks and ebooks are priced individually, and that you can sample them for free while you browse. Google Play Books is also a store where titles are priced individually, with free samples and some free titles. Smashwords says on its About page that it holds over one million DRM-free ebooks, including nearly 100,000 priced every day at free. Guests can browse, an account is needed to buy or download, and the DRM-free files mean you can read them in any e-reader app. Smashwords is now an ebook store only, and writers publish through Draft2Digital, as our news page on Smashwords becoming a store only explains.

The catch is what each store accepts. Apple's Books guidelines say Books cannot contain prohibited explicit or objectionable content and do not define it. Google Play Books allows sexually explicit content with educational, artistic, historical or documentary value, and publishers must mark such books "For mature audiences". Smashwords carries erotica as words-only and keeps it out of view until a registered user switches it on. Prices per title are not part of our records, so we cannot say what a story costs; the stores print it on each title.

Coins and credits: pay as you read

Coin apps avoid a subscription by charging per chapter. The honest arithmetic has two steps, and the listings give you only the first. Divide the pack price by the number of coins to get the price of one coin, then multiply by the chapter price in coins. The second number is printed inside the app, and none of the apps below publishes it on the pages we read. The table gives the first step.

The figures are US App Store packs read on October 27, 2026, and our own division. The App Store prints at most ten items per load, so a ladder can be partial: another pass over Dreame's listing recorded 2,000 coins at both $14.99 and $19.99. Read the table for what it does show. Among the packs read, Dreame, GoodNovel and Webnovel show no discount for buying more, so the largest pack costs the same per coin as the smallest, apart from the extra Dreame item above. Roma and Wattpad do give one. And a coin at one app is not worth the same reading as a coin at another, so Webnovel's 2 cents is not evidence that it costs twice as much.

Coins can be earned as well as bought. Roma's FAQ says tokens come from daily rewards, GoodNovel's store text says in-app tasks earn coins, and Wattpad's Payment Policy says purchased Coins never expire while Bonus Coins do, 30 days after receipt or when the free trial that gave them ends. Apple's guidelines say credits bought through an in-app purchase may not expire. Purchases are final: GoodNovel's Terms say All fees are in U.S. dollars and are non-refundable, and Dreame's say payments are final except a charge made in error that you report within 30 days. Our guide to how story app credits work goes through the mechanics, the comparison of subscription and credit-based story apps weighs the two models, and our pages on what Dreame costs and what GoodNovel costs do the sums on each.

Paying once or per story in the AI and interactive apps

StoryLoom sells a single spool for $5.99, which is one full-length story of seven chapters or two stories you never have narrated. It is usable with or without a subscription, expires one year after purchase, and an unused spool can be refunded within 5 days. On its Standard plan a spool works out at about $5.00 ($9.99 for two), on Plus about $4.50 and on Premium about $4.17, so the single spool is the dearest way to buy one and the smallest outlay that avoids a subscription.

DreamGen sells credit packs of 750 for $5.39, 3,000 for $18.29 and 9,000 for $51.79. DreamPress AI sells top-ups from 400 credits for $4.99 to 12,000 for $99.99, and credits bought in a pack never expire and are spent last. Pirr sells AI Credits packs at $4.99, $8.99 and $27.99 on the App Store, without saying how many credits each holds. Erotic Stories - Erotica lists a one-time payment of $39.99, and its listing does not say what it unlocks. For a shorter commitment, the Choices help centre describes VIP for a Day at $2.99 as a 24-hour pass, and Chapters lists a DayPass at $0.99 without saying what it includes.

The subscription that comes with the coin app

A coin app is not always free of subscriptions. Roma's App Store list carries Weekly Coins at $7.99, Monthly Coins at $19.99, Annual Coins at $39.99 and Unlimited Reading Monthly at $17.99. GoodNovel's lists weekly memberships at $9.99 and $19.99, and Webnovel's a monthly membership at $9.99 and a weekly short story membership at $19.99. Tabou Stories sells unlimited tickets at $2.99 weekly and $7.99 monthly, and MeChat sells a weekly subscription at $4.99 and a monthly one at $9.99. Lore, which has no coins, lists a weekly pass at $6.99, a monthly pass at $12.99 and a yearly pass at $99.99 on its pricing page, where every card is marked Coming Soon.

The weekly price is the one to do the sum on. Run for a year, Tabou Stories' weekly price comes to $155.48 against $95.88 for twelve monthly payments, MeChat's to $259.48 against $119.88, and Lore's weekly pass to $363.48 against $99.99 for the yearly pass. GoodNovel's and Dreame's store text says their subscriptions renew automatically unless you turn renewal off at least 24 hours before the period ends. Our guide to how to cancel a story app subscription has the routes.

Trials are subscriptions that have not charged yet

A trial avoids a subscription only until it ends. Dipsea's sign-up page says the annual plan is billed annually when trial ends, after seven days, and Audible's page says it Auto renews for $8.99 a month after 30 days. Everand's trial is 30 days on the web and seven through the App Store, Kindle+ gives 30 days to new subscribers at $11.99 a month afterwards, and femtasy gives 30 days on its annual plan only. Wattpad's Payment Policy says to cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged, through the store where you subscribed. If you want the services that sell only a subscription, with no coins, the review pages for Dipsea, Quinn and Spicify give their prices, and the pricing section compares them.

FAQ

Which erotica apps have no subscription?

The free archives need none, and the per-title stores sell books one at a time. Coin apps such as Dreame, GoodNovel, Webnovel and Roma sell coins, though several list weekly or monthly memberships too. The page on free against paid erotica apps weighs the options.

Do coins expire in reading apps?

It depends on how they were bought. Apple's guidelines say credits bought through an in-app purchase may not expire. Wattpad says purchased Coins never expire and Bonus Coins do. DreamPress AI says credits bought in a pack never expire, while StoryLoom's spools expire one year after purchase on its pricing page.

Can I pay once and keep the stories?

Smashwords sells DRM-free ebooks, so you can read the files in any e-reader app. For Apple Books and Google Play Books, our records give no ownership terms, only that titles are priced individually. StoryLoom says stories on a paid plan are kept until you delete them.

How do I stop a free trial charging me?

Cancel through the store or site where you subscribed, before the trial ends. Wattpad's Payment Policy says exactly that. Whether a card is needed to start a trial is not stated for most services.

Is a weekly plan a subscription?

Yes, where it renews. Tabou Stories' store text calls its unlimited tickets a subscription at $2.99 weekly or $7.99 monthly, and GoodNovel's lists weekly memberships that renew automatically. A weekly price usually costs more over a year than the monthly one, as the figures above show.
