Quick answer
- Seven free plans: Erota (15 daily credits), DreamPress AI (15 daily credits), DreamGen (200 monthly and 25 daily credits), Pirr (20 daily Standard AI actions), StoryLoom (two bobbins a month, six in total), AI Dungeon (a limited free tier) and NovelX (10 tokens).
- What is rarely published: what one story, chapter or action costs. Only Erota prints a credit price for a story, and its own pages disagree about the larger models.
- Trial only: NovelAI, with a one-time trial of 50 text generations, plus Sudowrite and NovelCrafter. None of the three has a free plan.
- Explicit or not: Erota, NovelX and DreamPress AI allow it for adults by their own rules, and Pirr has an opt-in setting. StoryLoom does not permit pornographic content. DreamGen publishes no permission, and AI Dungeon does not say whether Mature is open on the free tier.
- Human-written only: Literotica and Tapas bar AI-written work, and Bloom Stories says it never uses AI for its stories.
Free plans side by side
These are the seven free plans in the records, plus the AI side of Outfox Stories, in the services' own units. Nothing here is a ranking: a daily credit and a monthly count cannot be compared until you know what each buys. The third column is what the free plan leaves out, and the last says whether the service allows explicit stories under its own rules. The five kinds of free used across this section are set out on the free erotica hub.
| Service | The free allowance | What is held back | Explicit by its own rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Erota | 15 daily credits that expire at the end of the day and do not accumulate | The Apprentice model only. The Artisan and Master models need paid credits, and text-to-speech is listed under the paid plans. | Yes: explicit stories are the product, with a short list of banned themes |
| DreamPress AI | 15 credits a day once the email is verified, 50 bonus credits for verifying and 20 a day from day 7 of a writing streak | Images cost 3 credits each and narration replays 1. The credit cost of a chapter is not published. | Allowed for adults, under a Sexual and Erotic Content section; 18+ gate |
| DreamGen | 200 monthly credits and 25 extra daily credits | The free plan's context window and model access are not stated. | Not confirmed: the Terms do not ban adult content, and no sentence permits it |
| Pirr | 20 daily Standard AI actions, one character per story, three saved characters | Premium adds unlimited Standard actions, custom genres and tropes, and more characters. | Allowed, off by default, behind a setting you open by confirming you are 18 or older |
| AI Dungeon | The Wanderer tier: 9 story generators, 25 Memories, 4k tokens of context on most models and no monthly credits | Paid tiers start at 8k context, 100 Memories and 760 monthly credits. Image models cost credits. | A Mature setting you enable by confirming 18+; whether it is open on the free tier is not stated |
| NovelX | 10 generation tokens, with story creation, character development and a private library | What a token buys is not defined. Premium lists no token limits. | Yes: its headline product |
| StoryLoom | Two bobbins a month, up to six in total per account, kept for 30 days | Longer stories are sold as spools, which bobbins do not convert into. | No: pornographic content is not permitted |
| Outfox Stories | AI chats and text adventures, capped at about 10 text generations a day by implication | Paid plans raise the cap to 100, 500 or near-unlimited a day. Images and videos are safe for work only. | Yes under its rules, for mature content with an adults-only cast |
Reading the meters
Erota is the only service that prices a story in credits. Its FAQ puts one story at 1 credit on the Apprentice model, 2 paid credits on Artisan and 4 on Master, so 15 free daily credits are at most 15 Apprentice stories a day. Treat that as a best case. The homepage model picker labels the models "Apprentice 4", "Artisan (3x)" and "Master (4x)", which does not match the FAQ, and the FAQ adds that a policy violation costs 1 to 5 credits. Listening costs 8 credits a story at standard quality, and the free plan's record does not list it.
DreamGen's credit packs put a number on a credit: 750 for $5.39, 3,000 for $18.29 and 9,000 for $51.79, which is 0.72, 0.61 and 0.58 cents a credit. At the smallest pack's rate, the 200 monthly credits are worth about $1.44 and each day's 25 extra credits about 18 cents. That is arithmetic on a price list, not a statement of what a credit buys, because the pages we read do not say how many credits a story takes.
DreamPress AI's top-ups give the same kind of number: 400 credits for $4.99 down to 12,000 for $99.99, or 1.25 down to 0.83 cents a credit. At the smallest top-up price, the 15 daily credits are worth about 19 cents, or about $5.63 across a 30-day month if you used every day's allowance. Pro costs $9.99 a month on the web. A chapter's cost in credits is not published, so the number of free chapters a day is unknown.
Pirr's 20 daily Standard AI actions come to 600 in a 30-day month if every day is used, but an action is Pirr's own unit and the stories unfold line by line, so we cannot turn that into chapters. AI Dungeon's free tier is limited by context and memory and not, as far as we found, by a stated count of generations: 4k tokens of context on most models against 8k on the $14.99 Journey tier, 25 Memories against 100, and no monthly credits against 760. NovelX's 10 tokens are the thinnest published allowance, since the homepage does not define a token. StoryLoom counts stories instead, and a bobbin is a five-chapter story with narrated audio.
A trial is not a free plan
Three services with AI features have no free plan. NovelAI's docs FAQ says There are currently no plans for a free version of NovelAI at this time.
It offers a one-time "Paper" trial on an email-verified account: 50 text generations, 30 image generations up to 1024x1024 and 100 text-to-speech generations, which does not refresh. The cheapest paid tier, Tablet, is $10 a month with unlimited text generation. Sudowrite's pricing page says No credit card, cancel anytime
, its docs say that if you tell Sudowrite within the first 7 days it will cancel your plan and refund you, and the trial length is not stated. Plans start at $19 a month paid monthly, or $10 a month paid annually.
NovelCrafter's trial is 21 days with no credit card, but its cheapest plan, Scribe at $4 a month, has no AI features, and the AI comes from a vendor you connect or a local model. Erotic Stories - Erotica, an iPhone app whose listing says its stories are AI-generated and not curated, mentions a 3-day trial without saying which plan carries it. Some free plans also have a trial of the paid tier on top: AI Dungeon offers one week on its Journey and Legend tiers, and Erota offers 7 days on Premium, Pro and Ultimate. Neither page says whether a card is needed.
Free libraries and the AI question
If you want free stories that a person wrote, the free libraries say where they stand. Literotica's Content Guidelines say works generated by AI or large language models are not published, and its Terms forbid using site content for AI. Tapas's guidelines say AI generated content is not allowed on Tapas.
Bloom Stories says We never use AI to write, record, or edit any of our stories.
Lore describes its stories as human-written, with an AI chat layer for its characters. Our page on free NSFW reading apps covers how the human-written libraries switch adult content on.
The other direction is a library the model has already written. Satinaire's Terms say its stories, illustrations, character voices and narration are generated, in whole or in part, by artificial intelligence systems
. Reading is free with ads on Android, coins unlock chapters at prices it does not publish, and its two library figures disagree: more than 900 stories on Google Play and more than 1,500 on the website.
Why the free plan writes what it writes
Whose model it is decides what a plan will write, and few of these services say. The AI erotica stories hub tables who supplies each model and what each tier holds in context. Where a service does separate its tiers, the free plan gets the lower one: Erota limits free credits to its Apprentice model, and AI Dungeon's free context is 4k tokens. For the rules a given model enforces, see whether AI story apps allow NSFW. The ranked pages are best AI erotica apps and AI porn story generators, and AI Dungeon against NovelAI compares the two text adventures. For choice-based stories that use a model, see free interactive erotica, and for the feature across all services, apps with AI-generated stories.
FAQ
Is there a free AI erotica generator with no limits?
Not in our records. Most free plans are metered by credits, tokens or actions. AI Dungeon's free tier is limited by context, memories and image credits, and its record does not state a cap on generations, but 4k tokens of context is a limit of its own. Paid plans at DreamPress AI and NovelX advertise unlimited writing or no token limits.
Do free AI story generators need a credit card?
DreamPress AI's free plan says No card needed
, and NovelCrafter's and Sudowrite's trials say no credit card is required. NovelAI's Paper trial needs an email-verified account. For the other free plans the pages we read do not say.
Which free AI plan writes explicit stories?
By their own rules, Erota and NovelX are built for it, DreamPress AI allows it for adults and Pirr offers an opt-in setting for users who confirm they are 18 or older. AI Dungeon has a Mature setting but does not say whether the free tier can use it. DreamGen publishes no permission, and StoryLoom does not permit pornographic content.
Can I get audio from a free AI story plan?
StoryLoom's bobbin includes narrated audio, and DreamPress AI bundles narration with every generation and charges 1 credit for replays on the free plan. Erota lists text-to-speech under its paid plans. Whether StoryLoom's voice is human or synthetic is not stated.
Is a free AI story generator the same as an AI companion app?
No. The services here write stories from your prompt, characters or choices. AI girlfriend and sexting apps are a different product, and we do not cover them.
