Dipsea Cost: What the 7-Day Trial Actually Bills

What does Dipsea cost, and what does the trial bill?

The Dipsea cost most readers meet first is $5.83 a month, because that is the figure the sign-up page prints in brackets. It is not a payment. The page says 7 Days Free ... (only $5.83/month) billed annually when trial ends, which means the $5.83 is the $69.99 annual price divided by twelve and you pay it as one charge. If you take the trial and do nothing, the $69.99 is billed when it ends. If you want to pay by the month, the price is $12.99 and there is no trial.

Dipsea has no coins, credits or per-story purchases, so the whole price is on those four rows. The two store rows repeat the web prices from the App Store description, not from a purchase screen.

The arithmetic, out loud

• A year of monthly payments: 12 × $12.99 is $155.88.
• The annual plan: $69.99 is about 45 percent of that, a saving of $85.89 over the year.
• The break-even: $69.99 ÷ $12.99 is about 5.4. If you expect to listen for six months or more, the annual plan is the cheaper one. For five months or fewer, monthly is.
• The trial: seven days is the only free listening on offer, and it converts to the larger bill. The week costs nothing; forgetting to cancel costs $69.99.

A cost per story cannot be worked out: Dipsea claims 1000+ audio stories, with weekly releases, in its own FAQ post from 2024, and publishes no story lengths on the pages we read. The claim is the company's, not our count.

Web price, App Store price and the older price points

The App Store and Google Play descriptions both read $69.99/year or $12.99/month, so the listing text shows no gap between web and store. That is unusual in this section: for example Sudowrite charges 32 to 44 percent more in the App Store than on the web. But the description is text, not a purchase screen.

The App Store in-app purchase list also carries older price points beside the two current plans: $59.99 a year, $25.99 quarterly and $6.99 for three days, plus $8.99, $47.99 and $34.99 with no period recorded. They are not the current plans, and we did not see the purchase screen, so we cannot say which price a new subscriber is offered there, or whether the 7-day trial applies to a store purchase. The trial is described on the web sign-up page. If you subscribe in the app, read the price on screen before you confirm it.

Free, trial, cancelling and refunds

Free tier versus trial. There is no standing free plan on the sign-up page. The Terms (section 6) say We may let you listen to some of Content for free when you sign up for an Account, which describes something Dipsea may do, not an allowance it promises. The trial is separate and is the only free route we found.

Cancelling and refunds. The help centre has an article on how the free trial works and one on monthly against annual billing. We did not record a cancellation walkthrough, a refund rule or a card descriptor, so we state none of them. Is it worth paying? By how you listen

• To sample: take the 7-day trial on the annual plan, and set a reminder for day six if you do not want to pay $69.99.
• For a month or two: the monthly plan at $12.99 is the honest price. Annual only wins past about 5.4 months.
• For a year: the annual plan at $5.83 a month. It is the price Dipsea leads with, and the arithmetic supports it.

General advice. On price alone Dipsea is dearer than Quinn, which lists $7.99 a month and $59.99 a year on the App Store, and far cheaper than Bloom Stories. Compare the two directly in Dipsea against Quinn.
