GoodNovel vs Webnovel

GoodNovel and Webnovel are both web novel apps that sell later chapters for coins and let you read the first ones free. They look alike on a store shelf and differ in almost everything a reader would weigh: what they publish, what a coin costs, how old the terms are and what the policy forbids. We did not install either app. This page reads the store listings, the terms and the help centres, and says plainly where those pages are silent.

"Not confirmed" means the pages we read do not say, not that the answer is no. The sections below take the dimensions where the two records differ.

GoodNovel vs Webnovel: the coin arithmetic

Prices are US App Store prices read on October 27, 2026, and the rates are our arithmetic. Each list shows at most ten items, so both may be partial. Coin counts are in order, with a dash where a service lists no pack of that size.

At the same coin count, Webnovel charges twice as much, and neither service gives a discount for a bigger pack. The price of a book is coins per chapter times chapters, divided by 100 at GoodNovel and by 50 at Webnovel. Do not read that as "Webnovel is twice as dear". Each service sets its own chapter price in coins, and neither publishes it. A chapter that takes half as many coins at Webnovel as at GoodNovel would cost the same in dollars. The only safe use of the table is to convert a coin count you see in the app into dollars before you buy.

Webnovel adds a complication. Its help-centre index lists Coin Bonuses, Fast Pass, Privilege, Membership, Points, Batch Unlock, Golden Tickets and a Coin Plan. The answers load on click and we did not read them, so we describe none, but each could change what a chapter costs, which means the quoted coin rate may not be the rate you pay. GoodNovel's side is simpler on paper: coins, in-app tasks that earn coins, and Gems that readers send to authors and that, as far as we found, do not unlock chapters. Memberships

GoodNovel's list carries a "Weekly Subscription" at $9.99 and a "Weekly Membership" at $19.99, plus an auto-renewing "GoodNovel Bundle" in the listing text with no price. Webnovel's carries "Membership_Monthly" at $9.99, a "Membership" at $4.99 with no period stated and a "Weekly short story membership" at $19.99. What any of them unlocks is not described on either listing.

Our sums, assuming weekly items renew every week. Four weeks of GoodNovel's $9.99 item cost $39.96 and of its $19.99 item $79.96, with 52 weeks at $519.48 and $1,039.48. Webnovel's weekly item at $19.99 costs the same as GoodNovel's dearer one, $79.96 for four weeks and $1,039.48 for a year, while twelve months of its $9.99 monthly item are $119.88. The monthly item costs the same $9.99 as the 500-coin pack, the nearest comparison the list offers. Webnovel is the only one of the two with a monthly price in its list. Without contents, we cannot say that any membership beats coins.

What each policy forbids

Here are both clauses as written, because the wording is the comparison.

The difference is one of specificity. GoodNovel names the thing it forbids and then lists words and cover images that signal it. Webnovel's clause is a broad, subjective standard that does not tell a reader where the line is for sexual material, in a text that is more than seven years old, so we would recheck it against the live page before leaning on a sentence. Both are limits on what users post, not descriptions of the catalogue, and neither promises explicit content. Ratings and ages

• GoodNovel: App Store 13+, with the advisory "Infrequent: Mature or Suggestive Themes"; Google Play places it in its 13+ tier, whose own label is Teen. Terms: You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Platform.
• Webnovel: App Store 16+, with "Infrequent: Sexual Content or Nudity" and a list of things the app contains: unrestricted web access, advertising, messaging and chat, and user-generated content. Google Play is the same Teen tier. Terms: You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service.

So the written age is identical, and the iPhone rating is three years higher at Webnovel. Neither describes a document check, and we do not know how either app checks age at sign-up. We looked for a sentence saying that all characters are adults in each terms page, help-centre index and App Store text, and found none at either. That describes the pages we read, not the catalogues.

What you read: romance against fantasy

GoodNovel's shelves lead with romance, werewolf, mafia and fantasy, and run on to system, urban, LGBTQ+, paranormal, mystery and thriller, MM romance and sci-fi. It gives no library figure we could confirm. Webnovel's App Store text describes translated and original novels, fan fiction, comics, manga and webtoons, with Eastern fantasy (wuxia, xianxia, xuanhuan), Western fantasy, sci-fi and LitRPG alongside romance, and says The library boasts hundreds of thousands of fanfictions, a vendor claim with no total. In short, GoodNovel is the romance-first of the two and Webnovel the fantasy-first, with comics. Our fantasy genre page lists where else that shelf is deep.

Free chapters, cancelling and refunds

GoodNovel's store text says the first chapters are free and that tasks earn coins, and describes itself as not a totally free online novel platform. For Webnovel the free tier is not confirmed in detail: the help-centre index mentions free Coins, but the answers were not read. Neither publishes how many chapters are free.

Both cancel in the store, not the app. GoodNovel: choose "GoodNovel Bundle" in your Apple ID subscription settings and unsubscribe at least 24 hours before the period ends; all fees are non-refundable (terms, section 7.1). Webnovel: its terms, section 4.3, say a subscription renews automatically unless cancelled, that you cancel in the Apple ID settings on iPhone or on Google Play, and that fees are non-refundable unless applicable laws require otherwise. Apple's rules say credits bought in-app may not expire; neither service states an expiry rule that we found. Which one should you pick?

The sensible first step at either is the free chapters, then reading the coin cost of the next chapter before buying a pack. Our reviews are the GoodNovel review and our Webnovel review.
