Quick answer
- Same model, no ads: Outfox Stories is also open branching fiction with explicit content allowed in writing, and its own site meta says no ads, no censorship and no account required.
- A far bigger free library: Literotica claims 500,000+ stories and runs story games where the reader picks the path, free and with no account.
- Write the branch yourself: AI Dungeon has a free tier and apps on both stores, and unlocks adult content through a Mature setting you confirm you are 18 to use.
- On a phone: Dorian and Scripts are real apps with branching stories, but both cost money through a currency, and Dorian's guidelines rule out explicit sexual content in writing.
- Caveat: none of these catalogues was audited title by title, here or at Chyoa, and we have not created an account anywhere.
Why look for a Chyoa alternative
Chyoa is a community library for interactive adult fiction where each chapter can lead to several continuations and any registered user can add the next one. It is free, most stories can be read signed out, and its first rule sets a minimum character age of 18, backed by a footer on every page that reads All characters in all stories on this site are over 18.
Our Chyoa review sets out the whole record. Four things send readers looking anyway.
- It is ad-supported, and asks you to help. The site's own pages carry the line
Want to support CHYOA? Disable your Ad Blocker!
alongside a supporters page. That is the price of a free library. - There is no app. A name search of both stores on 27 October 2026 turned up nothing, which is not proof that nothing exists but leaves the browser as the only way in. Offline reading is not confirmed either, and reading settings are remembered only in the browser you used.
- Nobody is named and nothing is vetted. The pages we read name no operator and there is no separate terms page: the policies sit inside the Guide. The rules are written down and clear, but a user-written catalogue that no one audits is exactly that.
- Writers are not paid. Anyone can start a story or add a chapter, and there is a leaderboard of awarded community writers, but we found no payment programme of any kind.
Worth keeping in view while you read on: Chyoa's extras are unusual. Customisable stories take reader variables, Game Mode carries state, items and conditional choices, and there is a story map and polls. Nothing else on this page offers that combination, which is why none of these is a straight swap.
The best Chyoa alternatives, by what you want to change
We ordered the five by how close they stay to the thing Chyoa actually is: free, open, explicit and branching. The further down you read, the more you trade.

Outfox Stories

Outfox Stories is the closest thing we cover. It is a community fiction site where you can start a story, branch out from an existing chapter, or play an AI-generated text adventure, and its Content Guidelines say in their own words that adult and explicit sexual content is welcome within the rules on that page. Its site meta claims no ads, no censorship and no account required, which answers Chyoa's one real cost. Most stories become free a few months after publication, the terms set an 18 floor and were last revised on 18 October 2026, and the operator is named in its privacy policy, whose policies cite Australian law.
Two differences matter. Reading everything as it appears is a paid tier, from $8 a month, or $6 a month on an annual subscription, with a 14-day trial, and the AI layer on the free tier is capped at roughly a tenth of the paid Basic allowance of 100 text generations a day. And writers here can earn: supporters commit to pay per chapter published and give tips, where Chyoa pays nothing. The top tier is $100 a month, which is a number worth seeing before you start.

Literotica
Best for a much larger free library with branching story games
Free
- Type
- Free community site for adult stories (web only)
- Free tier
- Yes
- Library
- 500,000+ stories
- Explicit content
- Yes
- Creator program
- Free publishing for members, contests and awards; no direct author pay
- Web version
- Yes
If the branching is what you want and the ads are what you do not, Literotica is free, needs no account and claims more than 500,000 stories against a Chyoa catalogue whose size is not published anywhere we looked. Its story games are the same idea: adult stories where the reader chooses a path, and its FAQ says one story may carry hundreds or thousands of possible narratives. The same rule applies there as everywhere on the site, and the footer states it plainly: Characters in all stories are over 18.
There is a free audio section as well, which Chyoa does not have.
What you lose is the writing tools. Chyoa's variables, saved games and conditional choices have no equivalent we found, the site is a community board rather than a designed reader, and there is no store app: only an old APK on its own site, which is not the same thing. Authors are not paid directly either, although a beta button links readers to an author's own page elsewhere. The head-to-head is in Chyoa against Literotica.

AI Dungeon
Best if you would rather write the next move than wait for one
$14.99/mofree tier
- Type
- AI text adventure and story game (web, iOS and Android)
- Free tier
- Yes
- Library
- Not confirmed
- Explicit content
- Yes
- Creator program

- Web version
- Yes
The slow part of an open branching site is waiting for a stranger to write the continuation you wanted. AI Dungeon removes the wait: you type what you do or say and the model carries the scene on, in a browser or in apps on both stores, which is also the app Chyoa does not have. There is a genuinely free tier, called Wanderer, with 9 story generators, 25 memories and no monthly credits, and adult content runs through an account-wide safety setting whose own wording is Using the Mature level will not limit the AI from generating mature, violent, or triggering content. You must confirm that you are 18+ when enabling this level.
The caveats are real. Whether the Mature setting works on the free tier is not stated either way, the cheapest paid tier is $14.99 a month, and the company runs a filter that blocks sexual content involving characters under 18 even on the Mature setting, which is a stricter technical control than Chyoa's written rule. This is also typed open play rather than authored branches: nobody else's story is waiting for you, and nothing you write becomes a chapter someone else can continue.

Dorian

Dorian is the phone answer and the creator answer at once. Its catalogue is made by independent creators, a claimed 11,000+ games, and the pitch to those creators is a 50/50 revenue share: keep half of what your fans spend, keep your rights, set your own prices. For a Chyoa writer who has given away hundreds of branches, that is the whole difference. Readers pay in hearts, which are bought, or sapphires, which are earned by logging in daily, winning events or picking up giveaways, and the help centre explains both plainly, including that neither can be refunded once spent on a choice.
The caveat is the one that matters most on this page. Dorian's community guidelines say that suggestive and mature themes are welcome where rated, and that explicit sexual content is not. The App Store rates it 18+ with every content descriptor marked infrequent, and Google Play rates it Mature 17+, but the written rule is the written rule: this is not a place to read what Chyoa publishes. There is also no play on the web, only in the apps, and because each creator sets their own choice prices there is no single figure for what a premium choice costs.

Scripts is a choice app that, like Chyoa, lets its readers write: its store copy invites you to read, interact and create chapters on one platform and to share your own interactive love stories. Its Terms set the age floor at 18, or the legal age of majority where you live, whichever is higher, which is above the store rating and above what several apps in this cluster write down. It also publishes its subscription in its own store copy rather than burying it: a Romance Pass at $14.99 a month with 80 bonus diamonds on renewal, 10 daily diamonds, a weekly 24-hour key pass and a discount on premium choices.
What is not published is what a premium choice costs in diamonds, which is where the real spending happens, or what writers are paid. Diamond packs run from $0.99 for 10 up to $39.99 for 600, and our arithmetic on the two ends of that list gives 9.9 cents a diamond on the smallest pack against 6.7 cents on the largest, so buying small costs about half as much again per diamond. The app carries ads and is online only.
Chyoa and its alternatives side by side
Chyoa heads the table. A cell reading Not confirmed means the service does not publish the answer on the pages we read.

The pattern is hard to miss: everything free and explicit is a website, and everything that is an app charges for something. Nothing we cover is a free, ad-free, explicit branching app, and if that is what you came for, the honest answer is that it does not exist yet in our records.
How to choose
- You want the ads gone and the model kept: Outfox Stories, accepting that the newest stories sit behind a subscription for a few months.
- You want the biggest free library: Literotica, where the branching lives in the story games section rather than across the whole site.
- You are tired of waiting for someone to write the next chapter: AI Dungeon, with the Mature setting switched on, or any of the services on our AI interactive erotica page.
- You write, and you want paying: Dorian's 50/50 share is the clearest offer we found, and Outfox lets supporters commit per chapter. The wider picture is in how erotica platforms pay writers.
- You want it on a phone tonight: Dorian or Scripts, with the explicit-content warning above firmly in mind. The whole field is ranked on best interactive erotica apps.
If the browser is not the problem, stay in it: browser interactive erotica covers the sites that need no install, and free interactive erotica lists what costs nothing anywhere. For the vocabulary, see branching story. Anyone leaving a different service should start from their own complaint on the alternatives hub.
FAQ
Is there a Chyoa app?
We found no iPhone or Android listing by name search on 27 October 2026, and Chyoa publishes none. Of the alternatives here, AI Dungeon, Dorian and Scripts have apps on both stores; Outfox Stories and Literotica do not.
What is the closest site to Chyoa?
Outfox Stories: a community site where readers branch out from an existing chapter, with explicit content allowed under written rules, no ads and no account needed to read.
Are there free alternatives to Chyoa?
Yes. Literotica is free with no account. Outfox Stories is free to read with most stories moving out of its paid tier a few months after publication. AI Dungeon has a free tier with no monthly credits.
Do any of these pay the people who write the branches?
Dorian offers creators half of what their fans spend, and Outfox Stories lets supporters commit to pay per chapter published and send tips. Chyoa and Literotica pay authors nothing directly, and we found no writer payouts published by Scripts.
Which alternatives allow explicit sexual content?
Outfox Stories, Literotica and AI Dungeon all say so in their own rules, the last through a Mature setting you confirm you are 18 to switch on. Dorian's guidelines say explicit sexual content is not allowed. Scripts publishes no explicit-content rule we could find, and its store listing carries blurbs that are plainly adult.
Does any alternative keep Chyoa's game features?
Not in our records. Chyoa's reader variables, saved games, conditional choices and story map have no equivalent we found on the other five, which is the strongest reason to stay.
