Quick answer
- The problem: Crave's App Store list carries ten Premium items. Two are weekly ($4.99 and $7.99), two are yearly ($59.99 and $69.99), and four ($6.99, $12.99, $14.99 and $59.99) name no period at all.
- A readable price list: Epictos publishes three and only three: $2.99 a week, $5.99 a month, $39.99 a year, with offline reading and an ad-free library.
- Something free first: Huush says a selection of its stories is free to explore, at $8.99 a month or $34.99 a year. Crave's pages describe no free tier.
- Not an iPhone: Spicify runs on iPhone, Android and the web; Satinaire is Android only. We found no Google Play listing for Crave.
- Caveat: we install nothing and buy nothing, so this compares published listings, terms and prices, never how an app feels to use.
Why look for a Crave alternative
Crave does one thing that readers in this section ask for and few apps print: its Terms say that All characters depicted in the stories are portrayed as being 18 years of age or older, regardless of context or setting
. The reasons to look elsewhere are not about the stories, which the app publishes almost nothing about, but about what you would be charged and where you could read. Our Crave review has the full record.
- Ten prices, no offer. The US App Store listing shows ten in-app items from $4.99 to $69.99. Apple prints at most ten, so even that list may be partial, and the real offer appears only on a purchase screen inside the app.
- The spread is enormous. Our arithmetic from those items: a year on the $7.99 weekly plan would be $415.48, almost six times the $69.99 yearly item, and $12.99 a month comes to $155.88. The $19.99 half-year item works out at $3.33 a month, the lowest monthly rate among the items whose period is stated at all.
- iPhone only. A Google Play search by name and by the full listing title on 27 October 2026 found nothing. That is not proof none exists, but there is nothing to install on an Android phone.
- No refunds. The Terms say
No refunds are offered for any products or services offered via the App.
They also say some plansmay include a free trial
without naming a length or a plan. - Nothing is published about the library. No story count, no genre list, no description of what is free. The home page shows a single open sample. The Terms themselves open by describing an app that lets users make stories from their own photos and videos, which is not this product, so they read as a reused template.
One more thing worth weighing: the App Store privacy card declares data used to track you, including location, identifiers and usage data. The last version, 1.0.10, shipped on 18 February 2026.
The best Crave alternatives, by what you want fixed
We picked five services from our records and ordered them by the Crave reader's two questions: what will this cost, and will it run on my phone. Each pick says plainly what it does better and what it does worse.

Epictos is the direct answer to the listing problem. Three in-app items, each with its period in the name: $2.99 a week, $5.99 a month and $39.99 a year. The listing promises offline reading, Completely Ad-Free
and a claimed 500+ novels, where Crave publishes no library figure at all. The tropes named are alpha male and dark romance, billionaire, mafia and crime, werewolf and paranormal, enemies to lovers, and a forbidden and taboo shelf described as age gap and secret relationships.
What it does not fix: it is iPhone only, like Crave, and it is a one-person operation with 8 App Store ratings. Its privacy policy sets a floor of 13 while the store rates it 18+, it names Apple's standard licence instead of terms of its own, and nothing on the pages we read states whether explicit content is allowed or says anything about the ages of characters. Our arithmetic on its own numbers: twelve monthly payments are $71.88 against $39.99 for the year, so the annual plan pays for itself after about seven months.

Huush is a library of short romantic fiction for iPhone whose listing says A selection of stories is free to explore
before a subscription unlocks the rest. That is one more free route than Crave's pages describe. Premium is $8.99 a month or $34.99 a year, both printed on the listing, and our arithmetic puts twelve monthly payments at $107.88, so the year saves $72.89 and overtakes monthly after about four months. The listing also promises no feeds, no social features and no recommendation algorithm, and the App Store privacy card declares only usage data and diagnostics, not linked to you, which is the lightest declaration of any app on this page.
The costs: it is iPhone only, so the platform problem is unchanged, and it has no website. Its privacy policy and terms are Notion pages that did not render for us on two attempts, which means its age rules, refund rule and cancellation route are unread rather than absent. The in-app items are still named after the app's old name. It is small: 24 App Store ratings.

Spicify

Spicify prints its prices on its own site rather than hiding them behind a store: $4.99 a month for reading, $14.99 for reading plus multi-voice audiobooks, $19.99 for everything including Webtoons, which its FAQ calls a launch price against an original $24.99. It runs on iPhone, Android and any modern browser, so it answers the platform complaint as well as the price one, and it claims 100+ titles in a single dark romance catalogue: mafia, billionaire, reverse harem, enemies to lovers, fantasy and paranormal. Its Google Play listing was updated on 24 October 2026.
Two warnings. Its own App Store items carry the same three tier names at $49.99, $149.99 and $199.99 with no period stated, which is the same unreadable store listing Crave has, so read the web page and not the store. And its pages disagree about what is free: the store text says the first chapter or trailer of every story, the FAQ says all books are free to read with ads, and the home page says all its originals are free. Narration is by AI voices, disclosed in the FAQ, there is no offline listening yet, and the Refund Policy says all payments are final.

Satinaire
Best on Android, if you accept AI-written stories

- Free tier

Satinaire is the only pick here that Crave readers cannot get on an iPhone at all: it is published for Android only. It is free to download and free to start reading, with ads between chapters and rewarded ads that unlock free chapters, which makes it the one no-cost entry point on a phone. It is also unusually frank about two things. Its Terms say that stories, illustrations, character voices and narration are generated, in whole or in part, by artificial intelligence systems
, and they set the age rules out in numbers: 17 to create an account, 18 for anything at spice level 4 or above and for the explicit genre categories. Every chapter has AI-narrated audio, which Crave's listing rules out by design with Read, don't listen.
It fixes the platform problem, not the price one. Coins unlock chapters and neither the coin packs, the pack sizes nor the coin cost of a chapter is published: Google Play prints a range of $0.99 to $69.99 per item and nothing else. Purchases are final and non-refundable under the Terms, the store rating sits at the 13+ tier while the Terms allow explicit content for 18+ accounts, and its own library claims disagree, 900+ stories on Google Play against 1,500+ on the website.

Literotica
Best free, and the only other one with a written rule on characters
Free
- Type
- Free community site for adult stories (web only)
- Free tier
- Yes
- Library
- 500,000+ stories
- Explicit content
- Yes
- Creator program
- Free publishing for members, contests and awards; no direct author pay
- Web version
- Yes
If the ten price points are the whole problem, the answer may be to pay nothing. Literotica is a free website with a claimed 500,000+ stories, no account needed to read, and the same promise Crave makes in its Terms, printed in the footer of every page: Characters in all stories are over 18.
The Content Guidelines back it with a written ban, and they also bar works generated by AI, which rules out the thing Satinaire discloses and Spicify permits. There are story games with branching paths and a free audio section, so it covers more ground than a text-only reader.
What you give up is the app. There is no store listing, only an old APK on its own site that we would not describe as a store app, no offline mode we could find, and the reading experience is a 1990s community site rather than a designed reader. Stories are posted by members rather than commissioned, so the range in quality is the range you would expect.
Crave and its alternatives side by side
Crave heads the table. Prices are the published figures in US dollars, and Not confirmed marks a gap in what the service itself publishes, which is not the same as a no.
| App | Monthly | Yearly | Free tier | iPhone app | Android app | Offline reading |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $12.99 | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Yes | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | |
| $5.99 | $39.99 | Not confirmed | Yes | Not confirmed | Yes | |
| $8.99 | $34.99 | Yes | Yes | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | |
| $4.99 | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Yes | Yes | No | |
| Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Yes | No | Yes | Not confirmed | |
| Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Yes | No | An APK on its own site, not a Play Store listing | Not confirmed |
Two things stand out. Only one row has a confirmed free tier that is not an ad-supported route or a sample, and the two cheapest monthly prices, Spicify's $4.99 and Epictos's $5.99, both undercut Crave's $12.99 monthly item while publishing more about what you get for it.
How to choose
- You want to know the price before you install: Epictos on an iPhone, Spicify on a website. Both print a period beside every figure.
- You want to read something for nothing first: Literotica costs nothing at all, Huush opens a selection, Satinaire is free with ads. A trial is not a free tier, and Crave's Terms only say one may exist.
- You are on Android: Spicify or Satinaire. Our list of the best erotica apps for Android ranks the wider field, and the iPhone list does the same for Apple.
- You want a rule about the characters in writing: Crave and Literotica both print one. None of the other three does, which we checked and record as what we looked for and did not find.
- You want dark romance specifically: Epictos and Spicify both build their catalogues on it. See dark romance apps for the services with a real library in that genre.
Whatever you pick, read the price on the purchase screen before you confirm it, because in this corner of the App Store the listing and the screen are often different documents. The mechanics of getting out again are in how to cancel a story app subscription, and what erotica apps look like on a bank statement covers the other half of the question. If a listing made you suspicious, the same reading app under different names explains the pattern. Readers leaving a different service will want the other alternatives pages, which each start from a different complaint.
FAQ
Is there an app like Crave for Android?
Spicify runs on iPhone, Android and the web, and Satinaire is Android only. We found no Google Play listing for Crave itself by name search on 27 October 2026.
What is the cheapest Crave alternative?
Spicify at $4.99 a month on its own website, then Epictos at $5.99 a month or $39.99 a year on the App Store. Satinaire is free to start reading with ads, and Literotica costs nothing.
Is there a free alternative to Crave?
Literotica is free and needs no account. Huush opens a selection of stories before you subscribe, and Satinaire's free reading is supported by ads between chapters. Crave's own pages describe no free tier, only a single sample story on its website.
Which of these say all characters are adults?
Crave does, in its Terms, and Literotica does, in the footer of every page. We looked for the same sentence on the pages published by Epictos, Huush, Spicify and Satinaire and did not find one, though Satinaire's Terms do ban users from submitting content that sexualises anyone under 18.
Does Crave refund a subscription?
No. Its Terms say no refunds are offered, and that you will not be refunded for the unused part of a period you have already paid for. Epictos, Huush, Spicify and Satinaire all route purchases through a store, and Spicify's Refund Policy also says all payments are final.
Do any of these read the stories aloud?
Spicify sells multi-voice audiobooks narrated by AI voices, Satinaire adds AI narration to every chapter, and Literotica has a free audio section. Crave's listing says the opposite: Read, don't listen. Every story is crafted to be read.
