Best Wattpad Alternatives

Literotica is a free community site for adults, so there is no setting to switch on and no separate rating tier: the whole site carries the same adult-only rules. Reading, audio and interactive story games cost nothing, and no account is needed to read. Its Content Guidelines ban any sexual activity involving characters under 18, and its footer says "Characters in all stories are over 18".

The differences from Wattpad go beyond content. There is no store app (its only Android download is an old APK on its own site) and no offline mode we found, no paid tier, and it does not publish AI-generated work. The age check is a notice with no document check. Literotica vs Wattpad compares the two.

Outfox Stories is for people 18 and over only, according to its Terms, and its site meta promises "No ads, no censorship, and no account required". The Content Guidelines welcome adult and NSFW fiction "including explicit sexual content" under written rules. Readers can branch from an existing chapter, write their own, or play an AI-generated text adventure. Most stories are free to read a few months after they appear in Premium, and Basic is $8 a month, or $6 on an annual subscription, with a 14-day trial.

Against Wattpad: it is smaller in scope, web only as far as we found, and its Premium page says some regions require a one-time age verification before mature content unlocks. Creator payout rates are not published. It suits a reader who wants community fiction and branching stories without a 13+ audience.

Tapas is a web comic and web novel platform with an app. Many series run on "Wait Until Free": the home page labels a row "FREE Every 3 Hours!" and the store text says that when your timer runs out you can read the next episode for free. Ink, a virtual currency, unlocks episodes early and tips creators. The Android app has 10M+ downloads and the App Store rating is 16+ with content restrictions.

It is not an alternative for explicit reading. Its guidelines say "Any and all content intended for sexual gratification is not allowed", app artwork may not show nudity or sexual acts, and the creators' site says Tapas cannot promote or host independent series with mature content. The web has a Mature tab, a contradiction we record without resolving. It also does not allow AI-generated content, and the guidelines are dated March 9, 2022. Choose it for the timer model and the app, not for the rules. Tapas against Wattpad compares the two.

Webnovel sells translated and original web novels, fan fiction and comics, with a fantasy lean (wuxia, xianxia, LitRPG) and romance too, on iPhone, Android and the web. Chapters unlock with coins, packs run from 50 coins for $0.99 to 5,000 for $99.99, which is about 50 coins a dollar, and the App Store lists a $9.99 "Membership_Monthly" item whose contents the listing does not describe. The library claim is hundreds of thousands of fan fictions, with no total.

Its Terms (last updated January 14, 2019) prohibit content a reasonable person could deem "indecent" or "pornographic" without naming sexually explicit text, so its stance is unclear, and the minimum age is 13 with a 16+ App Store rating. The per-chapter coin cost is not published. It is a bigger fantasy shelf than Wattpad's, not a looser one.

GoodNovel is a web novel app and site where chapters past the free ones unlock with coins, in packs from 200 for $1.99 to 5,000 for $49.99, about 100 coins a dollar. Its genre list opens with romance, werewolf, mafia and fantasy, which overlaps Wattpad's romance and werewolf shelves, and it runs on iPhone, Android and the web. The App Store text says plainly that it is "not a totally free online novel platform", and weekly memberships are $9.99 and $19.99.

The rule is the stricter one: its Terms ban sexually explicit user content, and help-centre rules bar sexual words in book titles and suggestive covers. The App Store rates it 13+, payments are non-refundable, and the coin cost of a chapter is not published. It is the nearest thing here to Wattpad's serial-romance shelf and its Originals coins, and the worst fit for explicit reading. GoodNovel alternatives looks at it from the other side.
