Erotica Apps

Best Romance Reading Apps

Several of the best-known romance reading apps signal spice in their store listings and bar explicit text in their terms: Dreame is rated 18+ on the App Store with a frequent sexual-content advisory while its terms list sexually explicit material as banned, and GoodNovel and Webnovel bar explicit or pornographic content too. Only Wattpad says where explicit scenes are allowed, in stories rated Mature. Eight romance readers are ranked here on what their rules say, what a coin costs and what we could not check.

Updated

Quick answer

  • The gap: Dreame's terms (September 18, 2025) list sexually explicit or pornographic material as something users' content must not include, while its App Store rating is 18+ with a frequent sexual-content advisory. GoodNovel and Webnovel bar explicit or pornographic content too. We have not read the books, so we cannot say what they contain.
  • The exception: Wattpad allows explicit scenes between consenting adults in stories rated Mature, and bans pornography created primarily for arousal. It is first for saying so.
  • What a coin costs: about 1 cent at Dreame and GoodNovel, about 2 cents at Webnovel, 0.67 to 1.0 cent at Roma and 3.7 to 11 cents at Wattpad. None publishes what a chapter costs in coins.
  • Library claims: Dreame 500,000+ novels and Roma 10,000+ books, both company claims. GoodNovel's claimed library wording could not be confirmed on the pages we rendered, and Wattpad publishes no story count.
  • Not tested: we installed and read nothing. Where a rule is dated, contradicted or missing, the entry says so and ranks lower.

Romance here means the mainstream end

This list is for readers who want romance novels on a phone and are not necessarily looking for explicit text. That includes the serial apps that sell chapters for coins, the big social reading platform and a subscription library. When we read the Google results for this search on October 27, 2026, they were mostly Google Play listings of reading apps we do not cover, a romance reading site, Reddit and Facebook-group threads, and nothing shared with any erotica query. If the apps you saw look like the same reader under different names, they may be: our investigation of the same reading app under different names sets out what the store listings show and what they do not.

The other lists in our best-of section cover the explicit end. If that is what you want, best erotica apps is the page, and the apps below are mostly the wrong shelf for it, for the reason the next section sets out.

The gap: what the listing says and what the terms say

A store listing is marketing, and Apple requires an app's icon and screenshots to suit a 4+ rating whatever it contains, so the pictures tell you nothing. What is left to read is the description, the age rating, Apple's content descriptors and, if you go looking, the written terms. For these apps the signals point in different directions. The table sets them side by side, each cell from the service's own pages.

AppWhat the listing or site signalsWhat the written rules say
DreameApp Store 18+ with the advisory "Frequent: Sexual Content or Nudity"; Google Play Mature 17+; werewolf, billionaire and alpha-male genresTerms of September 18, 2025: material that is "sexually explicit or pornographic" is on the list of what users' content must not include
GoodNovelApp Store 13+ with mature or suggestive themes as infrequent; romance, werewolf and mafia titlesTerms 5.5(b): user content must not involve "sexually explicit description, cover and graphic, etc. (including any pornography)"; titles may not use words that imply sexual content
WebnovelApp Store 16+ with sexual content or nudity as infrequent; fantasy-led libraryTerms last updated January 14, 2019: content that is "indecent" or "pornographic" is barred; "sexually explicit" is not named
WattpadApp Store 16+; an Include Mature settingExplicit scenes allowed only in Mature stories (the platform's label is 17+), "not the main purpose"; pornography banned
TapasWebsite row "Mature Versions Available": "The spicier cuts? Only on our website!""Any and all content intended for sexual gratification is not allowed"; on the apps, no artwork showing nudity or sex acts
RomaGoogle Play title line "Roma: Romance Stories & Spicy Novels"; App Store 18+No content policy found; the Terms are Apple's standard licence
huushApp Store 18+ with sexual content or nudity as frequent; the text says tension and chemistryTerms and privacy policy are Notion pages that did not render, so unread
EpictosApp Store 18+; "spicy tension"; a Forbidden & Taboo tropeNo terms of its own; the privacy policy sets an age floor of 13

Read down the right-hand column and the pattern is plain. The gap is widest at Dreame and Roma, where a store signals adult content and the rules either bar it or say nothing. It is narrower at Tapas, where the website's own marketing contradicts its guideline, and narrow at GoodNovel and Webnovel, whose ratings are lower and whose marketing is milder. Wattpad is the one platform on this list that tells a reader how to find the explicit end. No source we read says why a store rating and a terms clause disagree, and we do not guess.

How we picked, and what we could not test

We ranked on four things a service publishes, in this order.

  1. A rule on explicit text that is current, specific and published. A rule that is dated, contradicted by the same service's marketing, or missing ranks lower.
  2. What the coin or plan costs, worked out from pack lists where counts are printed.
  3. The free part, as the service describes it.
  4. A library claim, printed as a claim.

The order is a judgement from published facts, not a calculation, and we publish no scores. We did not install or read anything. What we cannot tell you is what the books contain, how heavy the paywalls feel or how the apps behave. Library sizes and coin prices are as printed on October 27, 2026, and the App Store shows at most ten purchase items, so pack lists may be partial.

Wattpad is a social platform for reading and writing web fiction, with romance as its first genre row. Reading is free with ads and an account is needed for most browsing. Its Content Guidelines, last revised August 10, 2026, allow explicit sexual scenes between consenting adults in stories rated Mature, provided the content supports the story and is not its main purpose, and ban pornography created primarily for sexual arousal. A Mature setting under content preferences switches those stories on.

It is first because the rule is current, specific and explains the switch. Premium is from $4.99 a month on the web and $5.99 on the App Store, with a 7-day trial, and Wattpad Coins unlock paid Originals. Watch for: the services are for people 13 and over by the terms, the App Store rating is 16+, and the Mature label is the platform's own 17+. No story count is published.

Dreame sells web novels chapter by chapter for coins, with free first chapters and daily rewards. Its App Store text claims 500,000+ novels and 100+ million readers, which are the company's figures. The coin packs run from 300 for $2.99 to 2,500 for $24.99, a coin costing about 1 cent in every pack. It runs on iPhone, Android and the web, and subscriptions are cancelled in the Apple or Google store settings, not inside the app.

It is second because the rule is recent and clear, even though it points the other way from the store rating. Payments are final and non-refundable except where Dreame says otherwise, and the terms set the minimum age at 13 through a parent or guardian's account. The cost of a chapter in coins and the number of free chapters are not published. See what Dreame costs and the comparison with GoodNovel.

GoodNovel is a web novel app and site where later chapters unlock with coins. Packs run from 200 for $1.99 to 5,000 for $49.99, about 1 cent a coin at every size, and the App Store list also carries weekly memberships at $9.99 and $19.99. Four weekly payments come to $39.96 or $79.96, our arithmetic, and the listing does not say what the memberships unlock. Its help centre says a book title should not contain words that imply sexual content and that covers must not be sexually suggestive.

It is third because the rule is explicit and reaches titles and covers, but the store rating is 13+ and the terms accept users from 13. Fees are non-refundable. It shares a publisher of record with other brands, as the white-label investigation explains, and we do not know whether the libraries overlap. No chapter cost is published.

Webnovel sells translated and original web novels, comics and fan fiction, fantasy-heavy, with chapters unlocked by coins. The US App Store coin packs run from 50 for $0.99 to 5,000 for $99.99, about 2 cents a coin at every size, double Dreame's and GoodNovel's rate. A Membership_Monthly item is $9.99, and a weekly short-story membership is $19.99. The help centre also names Fast Pass, Golden Tickets and a Coin Plan, whose answers load only on click and were not read.

It is fourth because the rule is vague and old: the terms, last updated January 14, 2019, bar content a reasonable person could deem objectionable, indecent or pornographic, and do not say sexually explicit. The App Store rating is 16+, the terms set 13, and cancelling is done in the Apple or Google store settings. See Webnovel's coin rate for the sums.

Tapas is a webcomic and web novel platform where many series unlock free on a timer, with new free episodes every three hours on some, and Ink, a virtual currency, for the rest. Reading is free with ads, and Ink prices are not published on the pages we read because the Ink page needs a sign-in. Its guideline says Any and all content intended for sexual gratification is not allowed, and a novel's purpose should not be solely erotic satisfaction.

It is fifth because the rule and the marketing disagree: the website sells Mature versions, The spicier cuts? Only on our website!, and the Mature tab exists on the web. The App Store rates the app 16+ with content restrictions and an Age Assurance control, and the terms accept users from 13. The guideline was last modified March 9, 2022, and AI-generated content is not allowed.

Roma is a serialised romance reader for iPhone and Android with an author programme. Its website claims over 10,000 books, with free preview chapters and later ones unlocked with coins: 500 for $4.99 down to 6,000 for $39.99, which is 1.0 down to 0.67 cents a coin by our arithmetic. There are weekly, monthly and annual coin plans and an Unlimited Reading monthly item at $17.99, and chapters can be downloaded.

It is sixth because it has no rule to rank. The Google Play title line reads Roma: Romance Stories & Spicy Novels, the App Store rates it 18+, and the Terms are Apple's standard licence, with no content policy and no age wording on its privacy pages. Advertising is flagged on the App Store. The coin cost of a chapter is not published.

Kindle+ (formerly Kindle Unlimited) is Amazon's subscription for borrowing ebooks and audiobooks, read in the free Kindle app on iPhone, Android and the web. It is $11.99 a month plus taxes, you can borrow 20 titles at once with no due dates, and a 30-day trial exists for new subscribers. There are no coins. Amazon says it has more than five million ebooks, with romance named as one of the genres.

It is seventh because its only content rule is the store-wide statement that Amazon does not sell content that contains pornography, which is not specific to romance, and it publishes nothing on erotica. Fees already paid are not refunded. It is the choice for a reader who prefers a flat monthly price to a coin meter and has no use for a heat label.

huush is a library of short romantic fiction for iPhone: slow-burn romance, second chances and strangers who meet. A selection of stories is free, and a premium plan is $8.99 a month or $34.99 a year. The listing is romance-level in tone, and Apple's advisories list sexual content or nudity as frequent.

It is last because the record is the thinnest here. The privacy policy and terms are Notion pages that did not render for us, so any age check, adult-content rule or refund term is unread, and the seller is an individual whom the record does not name. It is iPhone only, with no Google Play listing found, had 24 App Store ratings, and was last updated on September 19, 2026.

What a coin costs

Coin counts do not compare between apps, because a coin is worth a different amount in each. The table converts every pack list that prints counts. All figures are our arithmetic from US App Store prices read on October 27, 2026.

UnitSmallest counted packLargest counted packPrice of one unit
Dreame coin300 for $2.992,500 for $24.99About 1.0 cent in every pack
GoodNovel coin200 for $1.995,000 for $49.99About 1.0 cent in every pack
Webnovel coin50 for $0.995,000 for $99.99About 2.0 cents in every pack
Roma coin500 for $4.996,000 for $39.991.0 cent down to 0.67
Wattpad Coin9 for $0.99244 for $8.9911.0 cents down to 3.7

Take a button that says 30. At Dreame or GoodNovel it is about 30 cents, at Webnovel about 60 cents, and at Wattpad $1.10 to $3.30 depending on the pack. That is a conversion, not a claim that any chapter costs 30 of anything: no app on this page publishes what a chapter costs in its coins, so a price per chapter cannot be worked out and we do not estimate one. Tapas keeps Ink prices behind a sign-in. For the method, see how story app credits work.

Reading a romance listing

A few habits cover most of what a store page can tell you.

  1. Ignore the screenshots. Apple requires icons and screenshots to suit a 4+ rating whatever the app contains.
  2. Read Apple's descriptors, such as Sexual Content or Nudity listed as frequent or infrequent. They measure how often a theme appears, and they are set by the developer's answers.
  3. Find the terms and search for sexually explicit, pornographic and obscene. Their absence is a finding too: Roma and Epictos use Apple's standard licence and publish nothing of their own.
  4. Compare the rating with the minimum age in the terms. Dreame is 18+ on the App Store and 13 through a parent in its terms.
  5. Work out the price of a coin before buying a pack, then ask the app for the cost of a chapter, since only the app shows it.

Our guide to why erotica apps behave oddly in the app stores explains the rules behind the first two. For romance that is also interactive, see interactive romance apps, and the romance genre page shows which services publish a romance category.

FAQ

Do romance reading apps have explicit scenes?

It depends on the app's rules, and we have not read the catalogues. Wattpad allows explicit scenes between consenting adults in stories rated Mature. Dreame, GoodNovel and Webnovel bar explicit or pornographic content in their terms. Roma, huush and Epictos publish no rule we could read.

Why does Dreame have an 18+ rating if its terms ban explicit content?

No source we read says. The App Store rates it 18+ with a frequent sexual-content advisory, Google Play rates it Mature 17+, and the terms list sexually explicit material among what users' content must not include. We record both and do not reconcile them.

Are Dreame and GoodNovel the same app?

No evidence we read shows that. The App Store sellers differ, Stary Pte. Ltd. for Dreame and Singapore New Reading Technology Pte. Ltd. for GoodNovel, though both price a coin at about 1 cent. GoodNovel shares a publisher of record with other brands, which the white-label investigation sets out, and we do not know whether any libraries overlap.

How much does a chapter cost?

Not published by any app on this page. The pack price and the coin count are printed, so a coin's price can be worked out, but a chapter's coin cost appears only inside the app.

Which romance reading app is free?

Wattpad is free to read with ads. Tapas offers free episodes on a timer. Dreame and GoodNovel give free first chapters and then charge in coins, and huush says a selection of stories is free. Kindle+ is a paid subscription with a trial.

Can I get a refund on coins?

Dreame, GoodNovel and Webnovel all describe payments or fees as non-refundable, with limited exceptions at Dreame and Webnovel. Wattpad says purchases are final, with refunds possible through the App Store or Google Play in limited circumstances.
