Erotica Apps

How to find free erotica

Four services in our research are free in the plain sense: nothing to pay, ever. The other kinds of free all cost you something instead, whether that is adverts, an account, a wait, or a card you have to remember to cancel. Knowing which kind you are looking at is the whole skill.

Updated

Quick answer

  • Literotica, Archive of Our Own, FanFiction.Net and Chyoa charge nothing at all. That is the simplest kind of free, and these are the four largest free catalogues we cover.
  • A serial app's free tier is a sample: the opening chapters of each book, then coins. None of those apps publishes how many chapters are free.
  • Free with adverts is common. BLANCHEstories puts about 100 stories in its free version against 600 or more in Premium.
  • AI story services give you daily credits instead of stories, and most of those credits expire the same day.
  • A free trial is a subscription that has not charged yet. Seventeen services publish one, from three days to 30.

Searching for free erotica turns up a lot of pages that say "free" and mean six different things. The grouping below is ours, and it is the quickest way we know to work out what a service is actually offering before you hand over an email address. The ranked picks live on our list of the best free options, and everything in that section starts from the free erotica hub. This page is about how to read the offer.

1. Free with nothing attached

Four services in our research are free in the plain sense. Archive of Our Own is the clearest about why: its FAQ says Users don't have to pay to use the site, and we don't host ads, and it runs on donations. Literotica's reading, audio and story games are free, and even its membership is free and optional. The FanFiction.Net app lists Read - Access millions of stories for free. Chyoa's FAQ says you can read most visible stories and follow ordinary choices while signed out, with an account adding bookmarks, following and saved games.

All four are user-written, which is the trade. Nothing is curated, the quality range is enormous, and the catalogue is the size of a small library. If you want volume at no cost, this is the group, and nothing else in the field competes.

2. Free with adverts

Thirty of our records show advertising. Reading on Wattpad is free with adverts, and its App Store listing carries the advertising notice; Premium removes them. Satinaire's FAQ says It's free to download on Google Play and free to start reading. Free reading includes ads between chapters, and its privacy policy lists a rewarded-advert provider for free chapter unlocks, so adverts are both the interruption and a currency. BLANCHEstories publishes the clearest version of the trade: a free version with adverts carrying about 100 stories, against 600 or more on Premium.

What this kind of free costs you is attention and data. An advert-funded tier is the one place in this category where your reading behaviour is most obviously worth money to somebody.

3. Free chapters, then coins

This is the serial apps, and the wording is remarkably consistent. Dreame's about page describes readers who read the first chapters of an online novel before deciding whether to support an author by purchasing coins. GoodNovel's listing is blunter: GoodNovel is unfortunately not a totally free online novel platform. Roma's FAQ promises that Each book has free preview chapters with the rest unlocked by tokens. The huush listing says A selection of stories is free to explore without saying how much.

Not one of them publishes how many chapters you get. That is the single most important missing number in the category, and it is why a free install tells you nothing about the eventual bill. The arithmetic you would need is in our guide to credits and coins, and these apps can also hand out currency for daily check-ins and tasks, which is a genuinely free route if you are patient.

4. A rotating free selection

Several services keep a shelf free and change what is on it. Bloom Stories gives free accounts a curated selection of free audios that change each week on one of its two front-ends and a monthly selection on the other, and says there is no time limit or trial period. OhCleo lets you Create a free account and pick any 3 stories to hear in full. Outfox Stories moves most stories to its free tier a few months after publication, so patience is the price. Tapas runs timers instead: its Google Play text describes exclusive free episodes dropping every three hours and waiting for a timer to read the next episode free.

This kind of free is genuinely free and genuinely limited. You do not choose what is on the shelf, and a story you wanted last week may be behind the paywall this week, which makes it good for browsing and poor for following a series.

5. Free credits in an AI story service

The AI services give you a metered allowance rather than a catalogue, and the allowances are published in detail.

  • DreamPress AI: 15 credits a day once the email is verified, 50 bonus credits for verifying, and 20 a day from the seventh day of a writing streak.
  • Erota: 15 daily credits that expire at the end of the day and do not accumulate, enough for 15 stories a day on its Apprentice model at 1 credit each.
  • DreamGen: a free product with 200 monthly credits and 25 daily credits, per the data embedded in its pricing page.
  • AI Dungeon: a free Wanderer tier with 9 story generators, 25 Memories and no monthly credits, which rules out the image generation it charges credits for.
  • Pirr: 20 Standard AI actions a day, one character per story and three saved characters.
  • StoryLoom: two short stories a month, capped at six in total per account, with free stories kept for 30 days.

Read those as rations, not libraries. The credits usually reset daily, which makes them good for an occasional story and useless for a long project. More of this cluster is covered under AI story services, and the free side specifically on free AI erotica.

6. Free books inside paid stores

The per-title stores all carry free stock. Smashwords says it has nearly 100,000 priced every day at free. Apple states that thousands of free audiobooks and ebooks are available in Apple Books and that you can sample anything while browsing. Google Play Books offers free samples and some free titles. None of these is an erotica shelf as such, so you are looking for individual titles rather than a free service, but the files are yours and they work offline, which no other kind of free on this page can claim.

The seventh kind, which is not free

Seventeen services publish a free trial, and a trial is a subscription that has not charged yet. The lengths vary widely: 30 days at Audible, Everand on the web, Kindle+ for new subscribers and femtasy on its annual plan; 21 days at NovelCrafter, which says no card is required; 14 days at Outfox Stories; a week at Wattpad, Ferly, Erota and AI Dungeon; seven days at Dipsea on the annual plan only; and three days at Lore. Several records do not say whether a card is needed, and we have not signed up to find out.

Watch out

Wattpad's own payment policy warns that coins granted during a free trial expire when the trial does. If you are going to try a service, set a reminder for the day before the trial ends, and read how to cancel a story app subscription first, because the route out depends on where you signed up.

For free audio specifically, our free audio erotica page goes service by service, and the services that never ask for a subscription at all are gathered on erotica apps without a subscription. The rest of the mechanics are indexed at our guides.

FAQ

What is the best completely free option?

For sheer volume of explicit text at no cost, the four free archives: Literotica, Archive of Our Own, FanFiction.Net and Chyoa. All four are user-written, none charges anything, and Archive of Our Own does not even run adverts.

Can I read free erotica without an account?

On some services, yes. Chyoa's FAQ says most visible stories can be read while signed out, and Literotica treats use of the site as acceptance of its adults-only terms rather than requiring a login to read. Most apps want an account before they show you anything.

How many chapters do serial apps give away?

None of them publishes the number. Dreame, GoodNovel, Roma and huush all describe a free sample followed by paid chapters without saying how large the sample is. Expect to find out only by reading.

Is free audio erotica a real thing?

Yes, in limited forms. Bloom Stories rotates a free selection weekly on one site and monthly on the other, OhCleo gives three full stories on a free account, and BLANCHEstories runs an advert-supported free version with around 100 stories.

Are free trials worth using?

They are the cheapest way to see a full library, as long as you treat them as a subscription from day one. The two things to establish before starting are the exact end date and where the cancellation happens, because a trial bought in a store is cancelled in that store.
