Quick answer
- Who has it: 33 services in our records say they offer interactive stories, 25 apps and 8 platforms. A service that is not listed has not published an answer, which is not the same as a no.
- What it means: three products share the word. A studio wrote every branch and you pick from a list, other readers wrote the branches, or an AI model writes what happens after you type.
- Explicit: of the 25 apps, only Pirr has explicit content confirmed in its record. Dorian and StoryLoom exclude it, and the other 22 are unconfirmed beyond App Store ratings of 16+ to 18+. Chyoa, Literotica and Outfox Stories allow it by written policy.
- Free: 13 of the 33 have a usable free tier in their own records. For most of the rest the record says only that the app is free to download.
An interactive story stops and asks what happens next. The list is long because the phrase is loose: a pick-from-three romance game, a website where strangers add chapters to each other's stories and a language model that continues whatever you type all qualify, and they have little else in common. This page, one of eight in our erotica app features section, groups them by who writes what follows your choice, then covers cost, limits and fit. For a side-by-side of the thirteen with the fullest data, see our section on interactive erotica.
What "interactive stories" means, and where the word stretches
We define it as stories that ask the reader to choose what happens next, rather than running from start to finish. The caveat that goes with the definition is the useful part: the word covers everything from two endings to a full branching tree, so the real question is how much the choices change. Our page on branching choices sorts the same services by what they say about endings.
The word also stretches in both directions. Satinaire's Google Play listing offers Alternate endings - rewrite the finale your way
, Deleted scenes
and POV flips
, but does not say whether readers make choices inside a story, so it is not on this list. Bloom Stories sells "interactive guides", which its pages describe as step-by-step audio guides, not branching stories, so it is not here either. FanFiction.Net goes the other way and lists Any form of interactive entry: choose your adventure, second person/you based, Q&As, and etc.
among the entries it does not allow.
How we grouped the 33
A flat list of 33 names would say little, and the records do not rank them. We grouped on one thing each service's own pages state: who writes what happens after you choose. A studio wrote every branch in advance, other readers wrote the branches, or a model writes the next passage. The groups are not a quality order, and a service that straddles two is named in both.
Choice-game apps: a studio wrote the branches (22 apps)
This is what most people mean by the phrase. The listings describe pre-written stories in which a decision at the end of a scene or chapter changes what follows. Eleven have a review here: Chapters, Choices, Romance Club, Scripts, Whispers, Love Sick, Tabou Stories, Dorian, MeChat, Winked and Lore. Eight more appear in our data without a page of their own (My Stories, Love Sparks, Love Island: The Game, Love Villa, Love 365, Love Story from Webelinx, Seven Hearts Stories and Another World's Stories), and three are dormant (Moments, Blushed and Lure). Blushed also says AI helps write its stories.
All 22 carry an App Store rating of 16+ or 18+, and 19 of them list advertising in their store entries. Lore is the exception on ads: its pricing page and App Store copy say it has none. The table covers the eleven with reviews.

Read the table as a map of what is unpublished. The free-tier column is mostly "Not confirmed" because the listings say free to download and nothing about what the free version holds. Explicit content is "Not confirmed" for ten of the eleven, and the eleventh, Dorian, is a "No": its record says its guidelines exclude explicit sexual content. Store descriptors for sexual content run from "Infrequent" to "Frequent" across the group, but no developer statement confirms explicit scenes in any of them, so we do not call them explicit.
Websites where readers write the branches
Three sites put the branching in the hands of their writers, and all three allow explicit fiction for adults under written rules.
- Chyoa describes itself as
a collaborative adult-fiction site where each chapter can lead to several possible continuations
. Any registered user can write the next branch. Its guide also describes a "Game Mode" with state, items and conditional choices. It is free and ad-supported, most visible stories can be read signed out, and we found no iPhone or Android listing. - Outfox Stories lets readers
branch out from an existing chapter
, with "canon" and alternate segments, and adds AI chats and text adventures. Its home page saysNo ads, no censorship, and no account required
. - Literotica has "Story Games", which its FAQ describes as adult stories where
the reader can choose their own path through the story
, adding that one story may have hundreds or thousands of possible narratives. They sit inside a free, web-only site, under the same rule that all characters are 18 or over.
Because the branches are written by readers, the number of endings belongs to each story, not to the service.
AI services: a model writes the next passage
Nine services adapt the story as you play instead of serving branches written in advance. Eight say they use AI, and they do it in different ways.
- Typed play: AI Dungeon, where you type actions, speech or story text and the model continues the scene, and NovelAI, which has a Text Adventure mode with Do and Say commands beside its document editor. Both records mark branching as no: this is open-ended typing, not authored paths.
- Role-play: DreamGen's home page invites you to
Play games with your favorite AI characters or generate stories of any genre
, and Erota has Roleplay and Adventure modes in its navigation. Erota's record says branching choices are not confirmed. - Choices plus a model: DreamPress AI offers a "choose your path" mode, StoryLoom ends each chapter on a decision with
one of three paths, or write your own
, and Pirr says its stories adapt line by line to your choices, with no statement on whether they form fixed branches. - Smuthie asks you to decide what happens at the end of each chapter and lets you build your own adventure. Its listings never say AI, so we make no claim about how its engine works. Both stores show a last update in July 2025.

On explicit content, the records differ sharply. AI Dungeon, DreamPress AI, Erota and Outfox Stories allow it for adults, AI Dungeon through an account-wide Mature setting that needs a confirmation of being 18 or over. Pirr allows it behind an opt-in switch, off by default. NovelAI's and DreamGen's records say it is not confirmed, because their terms neither ban nor permit it in so many words. StoryLoom's acceptable use policy says pornographic content is not permitted
. Our section on AI erotica stories sets out whose model decides what is allowed.
Free or paid access
Thirteen of the 33 have a usable free tier in their own records: Choices, Dorian, Love Island: The Game, Pirr, StoryLoom and Winked among the apps, and AI Dungeon, Chyoa, DreamGen, DreamPress AI, Erota, Literotica and Outfox Stories among the websites. The other 20 sit in the record's other column, which means "no free tier confirmed", not "paid only". Chapters, for example, is free to download, but its record says what the free version covers is not confirmed.
The free tiers are of four kinds:
- A currency that refills. Choices has a soft cap of two keys and a timer that issues a new one, and diamonds are free for finishing a chapter for the first time. Dorian's sapphires are free, though only its bought hearts support creators. Winked pays a daily reward and lets you earn diamonds through its love meters and a mini game. Love Island: The Game starts you with a handful of gems.
- A metered AI allowance. Pirr gives 20 Standard AI actions a day, one character per story and three saved characters. StoryLoom gives two bobbins (short stories) a month, up to six in total per account, kept for 30 days. DreamGen lists 200 monthly and 25 daily credits, DreamPress AI 15 daily credits, and Erota 15 daily credits that expire at the end of the day and cover only its Apprentice model. AI Dungeon's free tier has 4k tokens of context on most models and no monthly credits.
- Free and unmetered. Chyoa and Literotica charge nothing for reading. Outfox Stories moves most stories to its free tier a few months after publication, and caps free AI use.
- Trials and samples only. NovelAI has no free plan, only a one-time trial of 50 text generations. Lore offers its first chapter or two free and a three-day trial, which its record does not count as a free tier.
For more on the free options, see free interactive erotica. None of the 22 choice apps publishes the price of a premium choice, so a pack price tells you less than it seems to.
Limits to know about
Watch out
Interactive does not mean explicit, and it does not mean the story changes much. Neither is established by the records for most of the apps here.
- Endings are not counted. We searched every service record for a published number of endings or routes and found none. The only scale on offer is Literotica's "hundreds or thousands of possible narratives" for one Story Game.
- Dormant apps. Moments and Blushed show old store updates, Lure's official domain returned an error when we checked, and Smuthie has not been updated since July 2025. An app can stay listed and still be gone in practice.
- Online only. Chapters, Scripts and MeChat say they need an internet connection. For the services that do offer downloads, see offline reading.
- AI limits. What an AI service will write follows its model and filters, and a free tier may exclude the more capable models. StoryLoom bans pornographic content despite an 18+ rating. Lore's Google Play copy says
No graphic content
.
Which service suits which reader
These are matches between a need and what the records show, not rankings.
- Explicit, free to read and in a browser: Chyoa, Outfox Stories or Literotica's Story Games. Other readers write the branches, so quality and length vary by story.
- Typing your own actions: AI Dungeon has a free tier and an adult setting. NovelAI has neither a free plan nor a confirmed adult-content statement, but sells unlimited text generation on every paid tier.
- A choice game from the app stores: the eleven in the table are the candidates. The difference the records show is documentation: Choices and Dorian publish help-centre articles on their currencies, while the Chapters and Romance Club records note there is no public help page.
- No paid choices: Lore says in its App Store copy that it has
no ads and no premium choices
, and charges a flat pass instead. Its pricing cards were marked "Coming Soon" when we read them. - Shaping your characters: Pirr lets you name characters, set pronouns and choose genre, location and plot. See character customisation for who else does.

FAQ
Are there free interactive erotica apps?
Thirteen services in our records have a usable free tier, among them Choices, Dorian, Winked and Pirr in the app stores and Chyoa, Literotica and Outfox Stories on the web. What the free version includes varies from a refilling currency to a daily AI allowance, and for most choice apps it is not published.
Which interactive story apps are explicit?
In our records only Pirr, among the apps, has explicit content confirmed, behind an opt-in 18+ setting. Dorian and StoryLoom exclude it. For the other 22 apps the records give store ratings and descriptors but no developer statement. The websites Chyoa, Literotica and Outfox Stories, and the AI services AI Dungeon, DreamPress AI and Erota, allow it for adults by written policy.
Can I play interactive erotica in a browser?
Yes. Chyoa, Outfox Stories and Literotica are web-based, as are AI Dungeon, NovelAI, DreamGen and Erota, and Pirr has a web beta. Dorian's help centre says you cannot play on its website, and no web app is confirmed for the other choice apps with a review here.
What is the difference between interactive and branching stories?
Interactive means the reader makes choices. Branching means the choices split the story into paths that stay apart. Many apps use the first word for what is really a short detour that rejoins the main plot. Our page on branching choices explains how to tell.
Which interactive services use AI?
AI Dungeon, NovelAI, DreamGen, DreamPress AI, Erota, Pirr and StoryLoom say so, Blushed says AI assists its writing and art, and Outfox Stories adds AI chats. The eleven choice apps with a review here make no AI-written-story claim in their records.
