Quick answer
- Who has it: 29 services in our records list branching choices, 25 apps and 4 platforms. A service not listed has published no answer, which is not a no.
- The evidence is thin: none publishes a number of endings or routes. The only signal is a sentence of its own copy, and for 20 of the 29 it is the same sentence that supports "interactive stories".
- Strongest wording: seven name the ending (Another World's Stories, Romance Club, My Stories, Lore, Seven Hearts Stories, MeChat and StoryLoom). Nine more only say that choices matter.
- Visible branches: Chyoa, Literotica and Outfox Stories are the three where readers write the branches. Chyoa's guide lists a Game Mode with state, items and conditional choices.
- Free: 10 have a usable free tier. In several apps the premium choices are the part that costs currency, and none publishes the price of one.
A branching choice is a decision that sends the story down a path that stays different, not just a line of dialogue that changes before the plot rejoins. Almost every interactive story app says its choices matter. This page sorts the 29 services in our records by how much their own words commit to, since the number of endings, the best measure, is something none of them prints. It is one of the erotica app features we track, and it builds on our page on interactive stories.
What a branching choice is, and what gets called one
We use this definition: choices that split the story into different paths, not just different wording on the way to the same scene. The caveat that goes with it is the point of this page: many apps call a cosmetic choice a branch, and where a service publishes the number of endings or routes, that number is the better signal.
Story writers separate three patterns. A true branch splits and stays split, which multiplies the writing at every choice and is why it is rare. A loop gives you a different scene and then returns everyone to the same next chapter. A gate is a choice that only opens if you paid, built up a relationship score or picked the matching option earlier. Our glossary entry on branching stories explains all three. From the outside, a store listing cannot tell them apart, and the records we work from are store listings.
Two kinds of service are recorded as not branching, on purpose. AI Dungeon and NovelAI let you type your own actions, which is open-ended play, not authored paths. NovelCrafter and Sudowrite are writers' tools with no reader-facing choices. Neither group is a criticism: they do something else.
How we grouped the 29
We grouped by the strongest thing each service's own words promise, because the records offer nothing firmer. For 20 of the 29, the sentence behind "branching choices" in the record is the same store sentence that supports "interactive stories", which is why the two lists are almost identical (the branching list is the interactive list without AI Dungeon, NovelAI, DreamGen and Erota). Read the groups as claims, not as verified branches. We have not played any of these.
Group 1: the ending is named (7)
Naming an ending is the most specific promise any listing makes, though "multiple" or "different" is still not a number.
| Service | What its own copy says |
|---|---|
| Another World's Stories | interactive romance stories where every choice you make changes what happens next; endings that change with them |
Every story has multiple endings! | |
| My Stories | Make your destiny-affecting choices and arrive at different endings. |
Make choices that change the ending | |
| Seven Hearts Stories | Make choices that affect the plot and get a unique ending! |
your choices impact the ending | |
| StoryLoom | the ending follows your choices(home page) |
Romance Club, Lore and MeChat have reviews here; the other four do not. StoryLoom is a different case from the rest: a model writes each story as you go, so there is no fixed set of endings to count.
Group 2: a different path, plot or outcome (9)
These promise that the middle of the story changes, without saying the ending does.
| Service | What its own copy says |
|---|---|
Your choices unlock new twists, new desires, and new depths to each character's story. The path isn't fixed. | |
Make meaningful choices that change the story; creators build branching romances | |
Make choices that shape the plot (choose your path) | |
| Love Story (Webelinx) | Make choices that will affect the outcome |
Every decision you make influences the outcome of your story. | |
| Love Island: The Game | Make dramatic choices that change your path |
Your choices shape pivotal moments and lead to different experiences throughout the story. | |
select from a range of choices to decide your episode's course | |
The choices you make matter and have a direct consequence on your relationship status; the story itself is prewritten |
Winked comes closest to a remembered choice among the apps: its copy ties choices to your relationship status, and its FAQ mentions love meters for each match. Dorian is different in kind: its stories are made by independent creators, so how far any one of them branches is up to its creator.
Group 3: choices matter, and nothing more (9)
These nine say the choices are yours or that they matter. Whispers says Your choices in chapters truly matter
. Love Sick promises YOUR style, YOUR relationships, and YOUR destiny
, Love 365 says Your Romance, Your Way!
, Love Villa says Choose how your love story unfolds
and Blushed says dive into love stories that you control
. Moments, Lure and Love Sparks use comparable lines. None says what changes.
Choices belongs here too, but with a distinction: its listing says the effects of your choices vary by story
, which is the most candid sentence in the group. Some stories matter more than others, and the listing says so.
Group 4: readers write the branches (3)
On Chyoa, Outfox Stories and Literotica the branching is the product, written by members rather than by a studio. They are also the only services here where the structure is something a reader can see.
- Chyoa: readers pick a continuation at each chapter, and any registered user can add one. Its guide lists "Customizable" stories with reader variables, a "Game Mode" with state, items and conditional choices, a Story Map and polls. State and conditional choices are what make a later scene remember an earlier choice, so Game Mode is the closest any record comes to that.
- Outfox Stories: readers
branch out from an existing chapter
, and the site separates "canon" from alternate segments. - Literotica: its Story Games FAQ says one story may have hundreds or thousands of possible narratives. That is the only scale in any record, and it describes a single story.
Because the branches are written by readers, the number of endings belongs to each story. All three allow explicit fiction for adults under written rules.
Pirr, on its own
Pirr's FAQ says stories unfold line by line and respond to your choices
. Whether the choices form fixed branches is not stated, and its record says so. It combines writers' story arcs with an AI model that adapts line by line, so the question of how many endings it has may not have the same answer as in a fully pre-written app.
Free or paid access
Ten of the 29 have a usable free tier in their own records: Choices, Dorian, Love Island: The Game, Pirr, StoryLoom and Winked among the apps, and Chyoa, DreamPress AI, Literotica and Outfox Stories among the websites. The record's other column, with 19 services, means "no free tier confirmed", not "paid only". Chapters and Scripts, for example, are free to download, but their records do not say what the free version covers.
In the apps, the free question and the branching question are tied together. The records for Choices, Dorian, Chapters, Romance Club, Tabou Stories, Winked and Scripts all mention paid or "premium" choices, and none publishes what one costs. Choices says a premium choice you have bought will show up as 'Free'
if you meet it again. Dorian says hearts and sapphires both can be used to unlock choices
and that creators set the prices. Lore sits at the other end: its App Store copy says it has no premium choices. On the websites, Chyoa and Literotica are free to read with their branches included, and Outfox Stories moves most stories to its free tier a few months after they appear. Our guide to how interactive story apps work covers keys and diamonds, and the page on free interactive erotica covers the free options.
Limits to know about
- No ending counts. We searched every service record for a published count of endings or routes and found none. Where a count appears later, it should replace everything in the groups above.
- Paid branches. Where a choice costs currency, the branch you cannot afford is one you never see. Our glossary calls this a gate. The currencies are rarely explained in the listings.
- Most of the evidence is store copy. That is marketing: evidence of a claim, not of a design.
- Typed play and role-play are different. AI Dungeon, NovelAI, DreamGen and Erota let you steer by typing. That can feel more open than any branch tree, but it is not recorded as branching.
- Not everywhere. FanFiction.Net bans
choose your adventure
entries outright, so a branching reading list will not include it.
Which service suits which reader
- You want the clearest promise about endings: Romance Club, Lore and MeChat, the three with reviews here, print the word "ending" in their store copy. Our comparisons of Choices against Romance Club and Chapters against Choices set apps against each other.
- You want to see the structure and read for free: Chyoa, Literotica's Story Games and Outfox Stories. Expect variation, since members write the branches.
- You want choices that carry forward: Chyoa's Game Mode, or Winked's relationship status. Neither is a guarantee about the story.
- You dislike paying per choice: Lore says it has no premium choices; Chyoa and Literotica are free to read.
- You want an explicit adult story: only Pirr among the apps has it confirmed. Our interactive section covers age wording and ratings for the others.

FAQ
How many endings do these apps have?
No service in our records publishes a number. Romance Club says multiple endings
, My Stories different endings
and Seven Hearts Stories a unique ending
. Literotica says one Story Game may hold hundreds or thousands of possible narratives, which is a count of narratives, not endings.
How can I tell whether my choices change anything before I pay?
General advice, not something we have tested: use the free opening chapters, make a clearly different choice early, and see whether later scenes refer to it. The glossary describes the test. Choices says its effects vary by story, so one story proving shallow does not condemn the next.
Is there a free erotica app with real branching?
Chyoa, Outfox Stories and Literotica's Story Games are free to read and branch by design, and all three allow explicit fiction for adults. Whether any one story branches meaningfully depends on its author.
Are AI story apps branching?
It varies. DreamPress AI says "choose your path" and StoryLoom ends each chapter on a decision. AI Dungeon and NovelAI are recorded as not branching, because you type your own actions. Pirr does not say whether its choices form fixed branches.
What is the difference between branching and interactive?
Interactive means you make choices. Branching means the choices split the story into paths that stay apart. An interactive story that rejoins after every choice is interactive without being branching.
